Sharon Osbourne Defends Robbie Williams' Role in Ozzy Brits Tribute
Sharon Osbourne has spoken out to defend her choice of Robbie Williams to lead a supergroup tribute honouring her late husband, Ozzy Osbourne, at this year's Brit Awards ceremony in Manchester. The event will see the rock legend posthumously receive the Lifetime Achievement award, with Williams set to perform a rendition of No More Tears as part of a special musical homage.
Praise for Robbie Williams' Character and Connection
Speaking on the red carpet at the Co-op Live venue, Sharon Osbourne was effusive in her praise for Robbie Williams, describing him as "the most warmest, down to earth person" and highlighting the close friendship he shared with Ozzy. She revealed that Williams required little persuasion to take on a significant role in the tribute, underscoring his genuine connection to the Osbourne family.
"They were mates," Sharon stated, emphasising the personal bond that made Williams an ideal choice. She also noted that she sees many of the same qualities in Williams that she admired in her husband, further justifying her decision amidst some public questioning of his selection for the performance.
Supergroup Composition and Musical Direction
The tribute band will feature a lineup of musicians who have played with Ozzy Osbourne over the years, including Adam Wakeman, Robert Trujillo, Tommy Clufetos, and Zakk Wylde, with Robbie Williams serving as the frontman. Sharon explained that while she helped assemble the group, she "let the musicians take charge" when it came to selecting the songs, ensuring an authentic and respectful homage to Ozzy's legacy.
Kelly Osbourne, standing alongside her mother, expressed that the moment will be "beautiful" as it involves Ozzy's closest friends paying tribute. She also mentioned that her brother Jack was "sad" not to be in the audience for the performance, highlighting the family's emotional investment in the event.
Background and Family Updates
Ozzy Osbourne passed away on July 22 last year at the age of 76, shortly after performing at his Back to the Beginning concert. Following the Brit Awards, Sharon plans to return to the United States to be closer to her family, while Kelly will remain in the UK. Sharon, a grandmother to multiple grandchildren including Kelly's two-year-old son Sidney, intends to split her time between the two countries, dedicating at least half the year to family duties in the US.
With another grandchild on the way from son Jack, Sharon confirmed she will be flying back to assist with grandmother responsibilities, underscoring her commitment to family amidst the public tributes to her late husband.
