Sabrina Carpenter captivated the audience at the Met Gala on Monday night, wearing a stunning Dior gown crafted from Audrey Hepburn film reels. The 26-year-old Grammy-winning singer dazzled in a colorful, figure-hugging Versace Tribute dress from the spring 2018 collection, featuring Andy Warhol's silkscreen prints of Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. This design originally appeared in Versace's 1991 Pop Art collection by Gianni Versace.
Performance Highlights
After dinner at the Temple of Dendur, Carpenter performed a short set backed by a five-piece orchestra and four dancers. She sang her hits Espresso, Please, Please, Please, and House Tour to the star-studded audience, styled with voluminous blonde curls.
Later, she changed into a glamorous gold tasselled minidress by Bob Mackie with a fringe skirt, joining Stevie Nicks on stage to perform Fleetwood Mac's 1975 hit Landslide. Nicks, 77, closed the night with four songs, including Gypsy and Edge of Seventeen, and sang Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow with Carpenter. Nicks wore a glittering black vintage Morgane LeFay dress and Margi Kent jacket.
Red Carpet Entrance
Earlier, Carpenter walked the red carpet in a custom Dior slit tulle dress by Jonathan Anderson, channeling old Hollywood glamour. The halterneck black number featured a full-body wrap of rhinestone film strips and a daring hip-high split. She accessorized with a dazzling headpiece and matching drop earrings.
Host Committee and Theme
This year, Carpenter served on the host committee alongside Teyana Taylor, Doja Cat, Lisa, Misty Copeland, and others. The Met Gala, formally the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit, is held annually on the first Monday in May. The theme for 2025 is 'Costume Art,' with a dress code of 'Fashion Is Art,' calling on attendees to explore how designers use the human body as a canvas.
Mamma Mia 3 Rumors
In related news, Carpenter is reportedly being considered for a role in Mamma Mia 3. Producer Judy Craymer, who has completed a script for the sequel, said, 'She'd be a goddess or some relation who would look very much like Meryl Streep.' Amanda Seyfried, who plays Sophie in the films, also expressed support, saying, 'If Sabrina Carpenter wants to play my daughter, I'll make it happen.'
