Rochelle Humes has finally addressed the persistent rumours surrounding a potential reunion for The Saturdays, offering a candid update on the girl group's future plans. The five-piece band, known for chart-topping hits like All Fired Up and What About Us, has been on an indefinite hiatus since 2014, leaving fans eagerly anticipating a comeback.
Reunion Speculation and Anniversary Milestones
Next year marks the 20th anniversary of The Saturdays forming, a significant milestone that has fuelled reunion talks. Una Healy recently expressed her desire to celebrate this occasion on stage with her bandmates, including Rochelle Humes, Mollie King, Frankie Bridge, and Vanessa White. Each year, speculation intensifies that the group might perform at London's Mighty Hoopla festival, but Rochelle has now set the record straight with a mix of disappointment and hope.
Logistical Challenges and Family Commitments
In an interview on Jamie Laing's Great Company podcast, Rochelle revealed the practical difficulties in organising a reunion. She explained, "To be totally honest, we can barely get a dinner in." The group chat, where members coordinate meet-ups, often sees limited availability due to personal commitments. For instance, Vanessa White has just had a baby, and Mollie King is managing a young family, making scheduling a significant hurdle.
Rochelle added that any new announcements from band members are frequently misinterpreted as reunion news, leading to fan disappointment. She noted, "Any time any of us announces something new, people assume it's 'I'm so excited to tell you this, guys, The Saturdays are back.'" This has been particularly evident with Mighty Hoopla announcements, where clues have mistakenly suggested The Saturdays' involvement, as seen with JLS performing this year.
Never Say Never: A Glimmer of Hope
Despite the challenges, Rochelle emphasised that the door remains open for a potential reunion. She stated, "I'm grown enough to say never say never, we don't close the door on it, we never have. Get us to a restaurant first, get us a cocktail." This sentiment echoes Una Healy's recent comments on 2FM Morning with Laura Fox, where she highlighted the upcoming 20th anniversary as an ideal time to consider reunion plans.
Una remarked, "I hope so, you know that it has been 18 years now. So only two more to go. It was 2008 since the first single. The years are flying by, it's scary." She stressed the importance of a full reunion, saying, "If we ever do anything again it would have to be all five or it wouldn't be the same. I would just love if it was all of us."
Dismissing Fallout Rumours and Future Prospects
Rochelle also dismissed any speculation of a fallout among band members, clarifying that they have always maintained mutual respect. Should a reunion occur, all members insist it must include everyone, as they believe the group's dynamic relies on each individual's presence. Rochelle's son Blake is reportedly "desperate" to see The Saturdays perform, adding a personal touch to the ongoing discussions.
While no concrete plans are in place, the recent talks and anniversary milestones keep hope alive for fans. The combination of logistical issues and personal lives may delay a reunion, but the band's openness to future possibilities suggests that a comeback, though not imminent, could still be on the horizon.
