Penny Lancaster, the wife of rock icon Sir Rod Stewart, has made an emotional admission that suggests she might one day quit the United Kingdom. In a candid interview, the 54-year-old photographer and model revealed that Tanzania, an African nation, has captured her heart in a profound way, leading her to hint at a potential relocation.
Romantic Roots and Family Adventures
Penny and Rod, who have been married since 2007 after dating since 1999, have traveled extensively worldwide. Their connection to Tanzania dates back to a romantic safari before they had children, where Rod etched a heart and their initials into a tree as a gesture of love. Penny described this moment as cinematic, akin to being whisked away in safari outfits across the Serengeti.
The couple later returned with their sons, Alastair, 19, and Aiden, 14, to share the experience. Penny disclosed on the LNER Routes podcast that she told her boys, "If you ever want to know where mum is going to end up, this is the place," emphasizing her deep attachment to Tanzania.
What Draws Penny to Tanzania
When asked about her affinity for the country, Penny highlighted the culture and stunning light, which she finds captivating as a photographer. She recounted how the family stayed at the luxurious Mwiba Lodge, situated within a vast 51,000-acre wildlife reserve, and explored landmarks like Mount Kilimanjaro, the Ngorongoro Crater, and the Serengeti.
Beyond the natural beauty, the family immersed themselves in local culture, learning about the Mwiba tribe and visiting schools. Penny noted that her eldest son was particularly moved by the experience, not just by the animals but by the overall impact of the trip.
Future Plans and Public Appearances
While Penny's hints at leaving the UK remain speculative, her admiration for Tanzania is clear. She has praised their adventures as "the best" in her Times column, recalling early morning animal sightings and the joy of seeing the safari through her children's eyes.
In other news, Penny is set to appear on ITV One's Love Your Weekend alongside Alan Titchmarsh and Olympian Max Whitlock, showcasing her continued presence in British media despite her wanderlust.
