Kate Ferdinand's Mother's Day Wish: No Public Posts from Rio
Kate Ferdinand has openly shared a heartfelt request for her husband, Rio Ferdinand, regarding Mother's Day celebrations. In a candid discussion on her podcast, Blended, the 34-year-old former TV star expressed that she does not desire public acknowledgment from Rio on this special day, citing the sensitive nature of their blended family dynamics.
Complex Family Dynamics Influence Her Request
Kate, who has been married to Rio for over six years since their wedding in September 2019, is a stepmother to Rio's three children from his previous marriage to Rebecca Ellison, who passed away in 2015. The children include Lorenz, 19, Tate, 17, and Tia, 14. Additionally, she and Rio share two young children: four-year-old Cree and two-year-old Shae. On her podcast, Kate explained that she feels uncomfortable with Rio posting about her on Mother's Day without including recognition of the children's late mother, Rebecca.
"I don’t want Rio to post me on Mother’s Day. I really, really don’t," Kate stated. "Because I don’t want him to be in a… I wouldn’t feel comfortable in him posting me without Lorenz, Tate and Tia’s mum. It’s complex." She emphasized her confidence in the love from her husband and stepchildren, adding, "I know you love me, I know the kids love me and I’m confident with that."
Travel Plans Disrupted by Middle East Conflict
In the same podcast episode, which was pre-recorded on February 26th before recent conflicts in the Middle East, Kate revealed her hopes to travel from their new home in Dubai to the UK for Mother's Day. She aimed to reunite with her stepsons, Lorenz and Tate, who remained in the UK to pursue their football careers. However, ongoing travel disruptions in Dubai, including a recent drone strike at the airport, may jeopardize these plans.
Kate shared her anxiety and anticipation for the day, saying, "I’m actually flying home. We’re flying home on Mother’s Day because I just – we don’t want to leave the boys. It can be a great day. I just feel like we need to be together." She added that while they have no specific plans, being together as a family is her priority.
Background and Context
Kate and Rio moved to Dubai in August with their younger children, Cree, Shae, and Tia, while the older sons stayed in the UK. The podcast episode included a disclaimer noting it was recorded before the Middle East conflict, with Kate expressing sympathy for those affected. Her openness on the Blended podcast continues to provide insights into their family life, balancing the joys and challenges of a blended household.
This Mother's Day, Kate's wishes reflect a nuanced understanding of family relationships, prioritizing private love over public displays, even as external events threaten to disrupt their reunion plans.
