Former TOWIE star Chloe Sims has spoken out against online trolls who branded her a bad mother for appearing on the reality show while raising her daughter. The 44-year-old, who left the programme in 2022 after 11 years, addressed the abuse on Paul C Brunson's podcast, We Need To Talk.
Sims, who became a single mother at 18 after giving birth to daughter Maddie, now 20, said she faced repeated criticism. 'That’s what the feedback was. Imagine getting told that twice a week, a s*** mum, where’s your daughter? Even up until recently I would still get it,' she explained.
She added that many trolls still think Maddie is a child, despite her turning 21 soon. Sims revealed that Maddie briefly appeared on screen at age five but later decided she 'didn't like it' and has since stayed out of the spotlight.
When trolls targeted her daughter directly, Sims took a firmer stance. 'You better hope to high heaven I never come face to face or find out who you are. Because that’s like, no. I have been known to DM people privately, don’t come for a child,' she said.
Sims also discussed her relationship with Maddie's father, Matthew, which ended after seven years. She told New magazine: 'I was with Maddie’s dad, Matthew, for seven years, but we ended up like brother and sister and that isn’t what I want. She has a good relationship with her dad.'
Sims left TOWIE in July 2022, with the show describing her as an 'iconic presence' and thanking her for her contributions. She expressed gratitude for the 'life-changing opportunity' and the memories made with cast and crew.
