In an exclusive revelation, the iconic group Bucks Fizz, now performing as The Fizz, have thrown their considerable weight behind the United Kingdom's Eurovision Song Contest entry for 2026. They have described the track as "absolutely brilliant," offering a significant boost to the nation's hopes in the upcoming competition in Vienna.
Divided Opinions on the UK's Electro Entry
The UK's representative, Sam Battle, known professionally as Look Mum No Computer, has sparked a polarising reaction among fans and critics alike with his new wave electro song titled "Eins Zwei Drei." The title translates to "one, two, three" in German, adding an international flair to the entry. Supporters have lauded the performer and inventor, who once crafted a Furby organ, for delivering what they call a "bonkers but original feel-good song" that stands out in the crowded Eurovision field.
However, not all feedback has been positive. Harsh detractors have branded the act as "a millennial cos-player with no talent," "a 1980s synth reject," and "another dud who'll end up Look Mum No Points." This division highlights the high stakes and intense scrutiny surrounding the UK's participation in the 70th annual contest, set to take place in May in Vienna.
Cheryl Baker's Confident Prediction
Singer Cheryl Baker, 72, a founding member of Bucks Fizz, shared her enthusiastic endorsement with The Mirror. She stated, "I think the 2026 UK entry is absolutely brilliant. I love it. I think we have a really good chance this year of being in the top five." This vote of confidence from a former champion carries weight, given Bucks Fizz's historic triumph at Eurovision in 1981 with their hit "Making Your Mind Up."
Over the decades, the group has undergone several member changes. Following legal disputes in the 1990s, Bobby Gee now performs under the original name Bucks Fizz with three other singers. Meanwhile, Cheryl Baker and original members Jay Aston and Mike Nolan continued as The Fizz. Mike Nolan, who made a miraculous recovery after a brain haemorrhage from a tour bus crash in 1984, departed in 2024. The remaining female singers then launched a nationwide search for two male replacements, ultimately selecting Nikk Mager from boyband Phixx and Matthew Pateman from Bad Boys Inc and Let Loose.
Anniversary Celebrations and New Music
To commemorate the 45th anniversary of their Eurovision victory, The Fizz has returned to the studio to record a special new song. They have collaborated with legendary pop hitmaker Mike Stock, part of the famed 1980s Stock, Aitken and Waterman team, which produced chart-toppers for artists like Kylie Minogue, Jason Donovan, and Rick Astley.
Mike Stock expressed his excitement to fans, saying, "The Fizz were back in the studio recording a new track for the Bucks Fizz 45th anniversary. This is the first time recording with the new guys and they are all sounding great." This project not only celebrates their legacy but also showcases the group's ongoing relevance in the music industry.
As the Eurovision contest approaches, the endorsement from Bucks Fizz adds a layer of credibility and optimism to the UK's entry. With their experience and success, their support could influence public perception and voting, potentially aiding Look Mum No Computer in achieving a strong result in Vienna.
