Strictly Stars Reveal Farm Retirement Dream After UK Departure Plans

Strictly Come Dancing couple Gemma Atkinson and Gorka Marquez have opened up about their vision for a major lifestyle change in retirement, centred around moving to a farm and eventually leaving the UK. The pair, who have been together since 2018 and live in Manchester with their two children, Mia and Thiago, shared these intimate future plans on the latest episode of their podcast, Lost In Translation.

From Manchester to a Rural Idyll

Currently based in Gemma's hometown, the family maintains a routine where Gorka frequently travels to his native Spain for work, including his role as a judge on the Spanish version of Strictly. However, their long-term aspirations shift dramatically towards a quieter, more self-sufficient life. The discussion was sparked by Gorka reminiscing about his childhood visits to his grandmother's house, where he was surrounded by animals like chickens and rabbits.

He humorously recalled shooting pegs off his grandmother's washing line with a pellet gun, leading to her frustrated shouts. This nostalgic memory prompted Gemma to propose the idea of retiring on a farm, clarifying it would not be a working farm but a personal haven.

Gemma detailed her vision, asking Gorka, "Would you be up for one day retiring on a farm? Not a working farm, which I know there is a place for them, I do support the farmers if it's done properly, but if we just had like a horse, maybe a miniature horse, a Shetland." Gorka responded enthusiastically, insisting on a "proper horse" alongside the Shetland.

She expanded the idea to include goats and micro pigs, to which Gorka agreed, further suggesting they grow their own fresh food, inspired by his grandmother's practices. This plan represents a significant departure from their current urban lifestyle, emphasising sustainability and a closer connection to nature.

Future Travel Aspirations and Family Dynamics

The farm retirement discussion follows recent revelations about their desire to travel extensively once their children are older. Gemma admitted to dreading the day when their son Thiago finds a partner, quoting the saying, "A daughter is a daughter all your life, but a son is a son until he finds his wife." She expressed anxiety about another person entering his life, regardless of gender.

In contrast, Gorka voiced excitement about the freedom that will come when their children reach adulthood. He said, "I can't wait for them to be over 18, so you and I can go to Australia for three weeks." The couple also listed New Zealand as a bucket-list destination, with Gemma particularly drawn to whale watching after seeing friends' scenic photos.

Balancing Career and Personal Dreams

While both are deeply committed to their careers in entertainment—Gemma as a radio presenter and Gorka as a dancer and judge—their shared podcast has become a platform for exploring these personal future goals. The conversation highlights their alignment on major life changes, from rural retirement to international adventures, showcasing a partnership that blends professional success with heartfelt family aspirations.

As they navigate parenting in Manchester and Gorka's work travels, these plans offer a glimpse into the peaceful, adventurous future they are building together, far from the hustle and bustle of their current lives.
