Ashley Roberts Expresses Shock at David Haye's Controversial I'm A Celeb Comments

Pussycat Dolls star Ashley Roberts has revealed her profound shock at the controversial and what she described as sexist comments made by former boxer David Haye during their time together on I'm A Celebrity All Stars. The duo, who previously shared the jungle in 2012, reunited for the special series filmed in South Africa and broadcast recently, but Roberts admits Haye's antics this time around left her utterly stunned.

Unexpected Outbursts in the Camp

Speaking candidly on Capital FM's Breakfast show, Ashley Roberts confessed that despite knowing David Haye from their earlier jungle experience, his recent behavior presented a completely different and surprising side to him. "I don’t remember being quite as shocked as I was this time around about the stuff that was coming out of his mouth," Roberts told hosts. "You know, I mean, he used some outrageous language. I think my face maybe said a bit more than I said out loud."

The presenter Chris Stark highlighted Roberts' visible reactions to Haye's rants, which included criticism of "ugly women" and other inflammatory remarks. Stark admitted he was pleading with Haye to stop while watching the footage, to which Roberts responded by acknowledging the complexity of Haye's character. "Yeah, you know there’s moments with him though that were interesting where he was sort of quite nurturing and kind. So, you got a wide spectrum of characters within one human," she explained.

David Haye's Controversial Statements

David Haye sparked fury among fans and fellow campmates with his sexist comments during the show. The controversy began when Haye praised his girlfriend Sian's cooking skills, suggesting she could provide food for all campmates after the show. He then added, "She's like tall, blue eyes. She’s lovely. She's got the personality of a proper ugly bird." Stunned co-star Scarlett Moffatt immediately challenged him, saying, "You can’t say that."

Undeterred, Haye doubled down on his thoughts, brushing off the shock in camp. He elaborated, "She has. Most ugly girls realise they don't they're not pretty enough to….they gotta have a personality to banter and to tell jokes and s**t, so people overlook the fact that they're not aesthetically amazing, straight away." Haye continued by describing what he called "Ugly Duckling syndrome," claiming that girls who start off ugly develop personalities to compensate, while pretty girls often lack personality because they rely on their looks.

"You get a girl who's pretty from day one, you get a girl who's different day one. Everyone goes ‘You're so beautiful. You’re amazing’. She grows up thinking, I'm amazing. Everyone loves me. I can open any door. I can go anywhere I want," Haye said. "They don't have to have a personality, because most super pretty girls are just idiots. But then their ugly friend, they’ve got work a bit harder, be more personable. They got to be nicer to everyone. Gonna get you a drink."

Reactions and Aftermath

The comments left not only Ashley Roberts gasping but also other campmates like Scarlett Moffatt flabbergasted. Viewers of the show have expressed outrage on social media, condemning Haye's sexist remarks as inappropriate and offensive. The incident has sparked broader discussions about gender stereotypes and respectful communication in reality television settings.

Ashley Roberts' revelation on Capital FM adds a personal dimension to the controversy, highlighting how even familiar acquaintances can surprise with unexpected behavior. The I'm A Celebrity All Stars series, featuring past campmates, continues to draw attention for such dramatic moments, blending entertainment with contentious social commentary.
