Netflix's crime drama 'Seven Seconds' has been lauded by viewers as a 'masterpiece' and 'the best series ever seen'. The 10-episode limited series, which debuted in 2018, is inspired by the Russian film 'The Major' and centres on the aftermath of a hit-and-run in Jersey City.
The plot follows a white narcotics detective who accidentally strikes a Black teenager with his car. Rather than calling for help, corrupt officers cover up the incident, sparking racial tensions and a quest for justice led by the teenager's family.
Starring Regina King as Latrice Butler, the mother of victim Brenton Butler, and Russell Hornsby as father Isaiah, the series has drawn praise for its performances and gripping storyline. One IMDb user called it 'phenomenal' and 'a masterpiece that must be watched', while another said it 'should be seen by everyone'.
Although fans have pleaded for a second season, Netflix confirmed in April 2018 that it would remain a limited series. The drama is not based on a single true story but draws inspiration from real-world issues such as police violence, systemic racism, and the Black Lives Matter movement.
