Liverpool Mum Breaks Weight Loss Plateau With Simple Dietary Tweaks
Mum Breaks Weight Loss Plateau With Simple Changes

Emilly Murray, a 35-year-old content creator from Liverpool, has shared her remarkable journey of overcoming a frustrating weight loss plateau while using the medication Mounjaro. After initially losing an impressive 13 stone, dropping from 22 stone 1.5 pounds to 11 stone, her progress suddenly stalled, threatening her goal of reaching 10 stone.

The Simple Changes That Restarted Her Weight Loss

Determined to break through this stubborn plateau, Emilly implemented two straightforward adjustments to her daily routine. She significantly increased her water consumption, aiming for two to three litres each day, while simultaneously boosting her intake of protein-rich foods, particularly meat and fish.

Why Water and Protein Made the Difference

Emilly explained the crucial role these changes played in her continued success. "Water is dead important to remember to drink," she emphasised, noting that people often forget adequate hydration during winter months. Regarding protein, she added, "Protein is amazing, it keeps you full for longer. It is better for metabolism, but it is also good all round."

She highlighted a particular concern for those using weight loss injections: "When you are on the jabs you tend to not only lose fat but muscle mass, and the protein is very good for you." To support this, she incorporated creatine powder into her regimen alongside increased meat and fish consumption.

From 5,000 Calories to Healthy Snacking

Before beginning her weight loss journey with Mounjaro in December 2024, Emilly's eating habits were dramatically different. She consumed approximately 5,000 calories daily, frequently indulging in Chinese takeaways, pizza, chocolates, and Haribo sweets.

Today, her diet has transformed completely. She now snacks on fruit and cheese while ensuring she gets plenty of protein, meat, and fish. This shift represents what she describes as a "life-changing journey" that has enabled her to reach her ultimate goal weight of 9 stone.

Navigating Holiday Challenges

Emilly openly discussed how her diet "slipped a little" over the Christmas period, a time when "every man and their dog eats worse at Christmas." She experienced noticeable effects from this dietary lapse, including dry skin, spots, and feeling "really sluggish and rubbish."

Her straightforward philosophy emerged from this experience: "It's simple really – if you eat rubbish, you feel rubbish."

The Financial and Medical Considerations

Despite spending approximately £1,500 annually on Mounjaro injections, Emilly believes this represents a saving compared to her previous expenditure on snacks, takeaways, and convenience foods. She describes the treatment as "the best Christmas gift ever," noting dramatic improvements in her quality of life.

"I feel amazing, the healthiest I have ever been," she expressed. "Everything is so much better. I sleep comfortably, I can chase the kids about and walk up the stairs without getting out of breath."

Looking Toward the Future

Having recently reached her target weight, Emilly now plans to gradually reduce her dependence on Mounjaro. She acknowledges recent research from the British Medical Journal indicating that users of weight-loss injections may be more likely to regain weight within two years compared to traditional dieters.

"Weight loss jabs are medication – and like any medication – if you come off, you will experience some changes," she noted realistically. "My plan is to wean down on them. Hopefully if I stick with my diet and training, I won't need to have them again."

Emilly strongly challenges misconceptions about obesity, stating "People think obesity is a choice – it's not – it's a disease." She maintains that she won't feel embarrassed if she needs to return to the medication, recognising that "there is a chance I will have to."

Her story demonstrates that even when facing stubborn plateaus during weight loss journeys, sometimes simple, consistent changes to hydration and nutrition can provide the breakthrough needed to reach ultimate goals.
