Eamonn Holmes Health Update After 'Awful Days'

Veteran broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has received a wave of support from concerned fans after sharing a candid health update on social media. The 66-year-old presenter revealed he has been suffering from a severe cold, which led to his absence from his regular GB News slot.

Social Media Update and Fan Response

On Wednesday, 14 January 2026, Eamonn Holmes took to X, formerly Twitter, to inform his followers about his recent condition. He wrote that he had endured "awful days" and was battling a "really heavy cold" accompanied by relentless sneezing and a complete lack of energy.

The post prompted an immediate and compassionate response from his audience. Dozens of well-wishers flooded the comments section with messages urging him to rest and recover quickly. Fans shared sentiments like "Get well soon Eamonn" and offered home remedy advice, including suggestions to try lemon, ginger, and garlic.

Impact on Broadcasting Schedule

As a direct result of his illness, Holmes was notably absent from GB News Breakfast with co-host Ellie Costello on the morning of 14 January. Stephen Dixon stepped in to present the show in his place. Holmes typically fronts the programme from Monday to Wednesday each week alongside Costello.

This latest health setback comes amid a prolonged and challenging period for the Irish broadcaster concerning his physical mobility.

Background of Long-Term Health Struggles

Eamonn Holmes has been openly dealing with significant health issues for several years. His chronic pain began in 2021, initially stemming from a dislocated pelvis which later led to three slipped discs. He underwent spinal surgery in 2022 to address the debilitating pain, but the procedure unfortunately "went wrong," according to Holmes.

His condition deteriorated after the surgery, severely affecting his legs. A subsequent fall down a flight of stairs resulted in a broken shoulder, leaving him dependent on walking frames and wheelchairs at times. Earlier this year, Holmes described this phase as "one of the toughest periods of his life."

Despite these hurdles, he has consistently praised the NHS staff who have cared for him and maintained a public-facing positivity about his recovery journey.

The presenter's personal life has also seen changes, having announced his divorce from wife Ruth Langsford in 2024 after 14 years of marriage. He is now reportedly dating 43-year-old relationship counsellor Katie Alexander.
