Bondi Beach Attack Hero Confirms Permanent Hand Numbness After Nerve Tests

Ahmed Al Ahmed, the 43-year-old who heroically confronted one of the alleged gunmen during the Bondi Beach terror attack, has disclosed that he may never regain feeling in his left hand. The father-of-two was shot multiple times during the December 14 assault on Hanukkah celebrations, shortly after disarming attacker Sajid Akram.

Devastating Test Results Reveal No Sensation

On Tuesday, Mr Al Ahmed underwent nerve testing that confirmed his worst fears. 'Doctors sent electric shocks through it again and again. Even at 100mA, I felt nothing,' he wrote on social media. 'That moment was painful, but it did not break me.'

Medical professionals have already removed a bullet from his shoulder and performed nerve repair surgery, but Mr Al Ahmed had previously warned he might suffer permanent injury requiring additional operations.

A Slow and Painful Recovery Journey

The shop owner's rehabilitation has progressed slowly, complicated by sudden hand swelling and severe pain during a January trip to the United States. Footage shared on Instagram showed him lying in a hotel room with his left hand elevated on four pillows, forcing him to cancel all scheduled meetings.

'I was discouraged when pain medication wore off,' Mr Al Ahmed admitted, 'but I remembered that I had protected innocent people and felt hopeful once more.'

Financial Windfall and Business Plans

Despite becoming an overnight multi-millionaire through a viral GoFundMe campaign launched during his hospitalization, Mr Al Ahmed plans to return to his tobacco and gift shop in Sutherland, south of Sydney. The store has remained closed since the mass shooting, sparking rumors of a potential sale.

However, sources confirm the Bondi hero has reconsidered and intends to reopen his small business as early as this week. Local customers have expressed enthusiasm about his return, with one telling reporters, 'It will be great to have him back. He is a great guy, and now a hero too.'

Unwavering Determination Despite Setbacks

Mr Al Ahmed maintains remarkable resilience in the face of his physical challenges. 'I remember the days when I saved lives and made a difference,' he reflected. 'If I had that strength once, I will find it again. This phase is hard, but it is temporary.'

The shop owner, who has operated his Sutherland store since 2021, concluded his social media message with an appeal for support: 'Healing takes time, and I am ready to fight for it. I ask everyone reading this to keep me in your prayers. I believe I will heal. I believe I will rise again. I will not give up.'

In the days following the terror attack, flowers and cards accumulated outside his closed business, thanking him for his extraordinary bravery during the Bondi Beach tragedy.
