Former Real Housewives of New York star Bethenny Frankel has publicly announced she has received a diagnosis of stage two chronic kidney disease. The 55-year-old television personality shared this significant health update with her followers via a TikTok video posted on Thursday.
Proactive Health Monitoring Leads to Diagnosis
Frankel explained that she decided to take a proactive approach to her health several months ago, initiating a series of comprehensive blood tests and bone density scans. This decision came after hearing discussions from others about the importance of regular health screenings.
"Months ago I decided I was going to be very proactive about blood tests, bone density, all the things I had heard people talking about," Frankel stated in her video. "And I started to take a series of blood tests."
Concerning Test Results Emerge
Each time Frankel underwent blood testing, her kidney function results consistently returned with concerning "low" readings. These persistent abnormalities eventually led to a referral to a kidney specialist.
"Then today, I was told I had a doctor's appointment with a kidney specialist and I didn't even want to go," the reality star admitted, highlighting the apprehension many feel when facing potential serious health news.
Frankel's Calm Announcement
Seated outdoors in her video, Frankel began with "So, I have a medical announcement," but immediately sought to reassure viewers, explaining she did not want anyone to "worry" excessively about her condition.
This health revelation comes shortly after Frankel contracted a bacterial infection on her face during a trip to St. Barts, adding to what has been a challenging period medically for the entrepreneur and media figure.
Chronic kidney disease at stage two indicates mild kidney damage with preserved kidney function, though it requires careful monitoring and management. Frankel's decision to share her diagnosis publicly continues her pattern of openness about personal health matters, potentially raising awareness about kidney health and the importance of regular testing.
