Tipping Point Contestant Wins IVF Funds, Welcomes Triplets

A father who appeared on the ITV game show Tipping Point to secure prize money for IVF treatment has joyfully announced that he and his wife are now parents to healthy triplets. Jamie and Hayley McEvoy, both aged 30, turned to their favourite television programme in a determined effort to raise funds for privately-funded fertility treatments, hoping to expand their family.

Game Show Success and Family Expansion

Thanks to his impressive knowledge of film trivia, Jamie McEvoy advanced to the final round of Tipping Point, hosted by Ben Shephard. Although he narrowly missed out on the £10,000 jackpot, he still walked away with a substantial £3,000 prize. This financial boost proved pivotal, as the couple allocated the winnings towards another round of IVF treatment.

The treatment was not only successful but exceeded all expectations when Hayley McEvoy gave birth to three healthy babies in June of last year. The triplets include a girl named Nova and two boys, Billy and Jasper. This remarkable outcome has doubled the size of their family overnight, prompting a move to a five-bedroom house in Buckshaw Village, near Chorley in Lancashire, and the purchase of a larger vehicle to accommodate their growing household.

Overcoming Challenges and Celebrating Success

The couple faced significant challenges along the way, including the initial shock of discovering they were expecting triplets. They were advised to consider aborting one fetus to improve the survival chances of the other two, but Jamie and Hayley firmly decided against this option, choosing to keep all three babies. Fortunately, Hayley’s pregnancy progressed smoothly, reaching 35 weeks—a notable achievement for a triplet pregnancy—and resulting in the birth of three healthy infants.

Jamie McEvoy, who works as an admissions administrator at Manchester University, expressed profound gratitude for the opportunity provided by the game show. He stated, ‘I won £3,000, which was enough to be able to afford another round of IVF. If we hadn’t won that money, we wouldn’t have had the triplets. It was a real turning point for our family.’ The couple had previously welcomed their first child, Otis, in 2022 through NHS-funded IVF but needed to finance any additional treatments privately to give him a sibling.

Life with Triplets and Public Recognition

Now nine months old, the triplets are thriving, though Jamie admitted that the first six months were incredibly demanding, with the couple managing only about two hours of sleep per night. He remarked, ‘They are doing really well, but it is incredibly difficult. We thought having one was hard enough.’ The family’s story gained public attention after Ben Shephard shared it on social media platform X, celebrating what he called the ‘first Tipping Point Triplets.’

Jamie filmed his episode of Tipping Point in May 2023, but it aired for the first time only last week. He recalled having to change the channel initially so his son Otis could watch the children’s show Bluey, later catching up on the broadcast. Reflecting on their journey, Jamie added, ‘We are very lucky,’ emphasising the positive outlook Hayley maintained throughout the pregnancy and the joy their expanded family has brought.
