Social media influencer and former Love Island contestant Molly-Mae Hague has candidly discussed the intense 'pressure' she feels to have a second child, while also revealing a surprising regret about the timing of her first pregnancy.
Reflecting on Motherhood at 23
In a revealing new cover interview for the December/January issue of Cosmopolitan UK, the 26-year-old shared deep insights into her journey as a mother. Molly-Mae and her partner, boxer Tommy Fury, also 26, welcomed their daughter, Bambi, in January 2023.
At the time, Molly-Mae felt completely ready for motherhood. "I felt like I'd lived so much life by 23, I felt really ready for a new chapter," she told the magazine. "Tommy and I were in an incredible place and to have something that was half him, half me, just felt really special. I've never had any regrets about starting a family young."
However, with the benefit of hindsight, her perspective has shifted slightly. She admitted that if she could turn back time, she might have waited a few more years. "I would love more days to just sit and do absolutely nothing," she confessed, noting that such quiet days were "great for my mental health."
The Sibling Pressure and Career Ambitions
The conversation then turned to the future and the possibility of expanding her family. Molly-Mae revealed that the thought of a second child is constantly on her mind, driven by a desire to give Bambi a sibling.
"I think about it a lot, and I feel a real pressure around it because I'm desperate to give Bambi a sibling," she explained. This feeling is deeply personal, stemming from her own close bond with her older sister, Zoe. "My life wouldn’t have been the same without my sister. I want that for Bambi."
Despite this pressure, the founder of the fashion brand Maebe is determined that any decision to have another baby must also align with her own personal and professional goals. "I would never want to do it just for her - I would also want to do it because it is something I want to do," she stated.
Balancing motherhood with a high-powered career remains a top priority. "At the same time as being a mum, I also have huge career ambitions and when I fell pregnant with Bambi, my biggest goal was that I didn't want to lose my identity - I didn't want to lose myself and my goals and my dreams and my business ambitions because I was becoming a mum."
Navigating Backlash and Public Scrutiny
The interview comes on the heels of recent controversy for the reality star. Last month, Molly-Mae faced a fresh wave of mum-shaming concerning scenes in her docuseries, 'Molly-May: Behind It All'.
An episode featured her struggles with potty training Bambi, including a blurred shot of the toddler in the bath, which sparked concern and criticism online. A source close to the influencer revealed that the backlash was particularly difficult for her because Bambi's welfare is her number one priority.
"She's had a real shock with this backlash," the source claimed, adding that Molly-Mae is learning that fame requires constant vigilance. "When you film a show like that you need to be in control and examine every little thing that's going out."
Molly-Mae's honest reflections highlight the complex realities of young motherhood under the spotlight, juggling family desires with personal ambition and the unrelenting scrutiny of public life.
