Irish actor and Celebrity Traitors star Ruth Codd has revealed to her followers that she has undergone a second below-knee amputation, sharing the significant personal update with her signature blend of candour and humour.
Announcement on Social Media
The 29-year-old performer broke the news to her 200,000 followers on TikTok, framing it with her characteristic wit. She presented her followers with good news and bad news in a video posted from her parents' house.
"Good news: we've had a full-circle moment, I'm back making TikTok content in my parents' house," Codd began. "Bad news: I can't do it in front of that lovely blue floral wallpaper anymore, due to the fact that that room is upstairs and I've just had my second below-knee amputation."
Introducing 'Fat Tony'
Acknowledging that the news was "a lot to unpack for everyone involved," Codd immediately lightened the mood by introducing her followers to her new wheelchair, which she affectionately named 'Fat Tony'.
She provided a humorous review of her new mobility aid, noting: "She has a top speed of f*** all, however, especially if there's a step involved."
Codd did not disclose the specific medical reason for undergoing the second procedure. Her initial leg injury occurred when she was just 15 years old while playing football, which failed to heal correctly and led to multiple surgeries and chronic pain.
Overwhelming Support and Career Journey
The announcement prompted an immediate flood of supportive messages from fans and famous friends alike. Codd's response to the outpouring was typically self-deprecating: "Guys stop being so nice to me it's weirding me out."
A caption typo that initially read "bologna amputation" provided additional levity, with Codd embracing the mistake in her post captioned: "No legs who dis? #paralympics2026."
Before finding fame, Codd worked as a professional makeup artist and barber. After losing her job during the pandemic, she began posting on TikTok, where she quickly gained a following through her unique mix of comedy and disability awareness.
This online presence led to her being cast in the Netflix mystery thriller series The Midnight Club, followed by a role as Juno Usher in Netflix's horror mini-series The Fall of the House of Usher in October 2023.
She made her feature film debut as Phlegma in the live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon and rose to further prominence after being cast in the first series of The Celebrity Traitors earlier this month, where she was selected as a Faithful before being "murdered" by Traitors Alan Carr, Jonathan Ross and Cat Burns in the fourth episode.
