A major road outside the world-famous Buckingham Palace has been abruptly sealed off after a giant sinkhole dramatically opened up in the tarmac, sending authorities into a frenzy.
The alarming chasm emerged on Spur Road, a key thoroughfare running alongside the monarch's official London residence, forcing immediate closure of the area for public safety.
Footage from the scene reveals a substantial hole in the ground, approximately two metres deep, with the road surface visibly crumbling around its edges. The cavity has been cordoned off with barriers and tape as engineers assess the stability of the surrounding pavement.
Emergency Response Underway
Royal Parks, responsible for maintaining the area, confirmed they are urgently investigating the cause of the collapse. Specialist teams are working to determine the extent of the damage and plan necessary repairs.
"We are aware of a sinkhole on Spur Road and have put a safety cordon in place," a spokesperson stated, emphasising that public safety remains their top priority while investigations continue.
Traffic and Travel Disruption
The unexpected road closure has caused significant disruption to traffic flow in one of London's most iconic locations. Motorists and bus routes have been diverted, while pedestrians are being redirected away from the potentially dangerous area.
The timing proves particularly inconvenient with increased tourist numbers expected during the summer season, though palace viewing operations continue unaffected on the opposite side of the building.
