A significant fire has broken out at a recycling facility in south London, prompting a large-scale emergency response. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed that 15 fire engines and approximately 100 firefighters are battling the inferno at a premises on Landmann Way in Bermondsey. Two of LFB's 32-metre turntable ladders are being deployed to tackle the flames.
Smoke visible across the area
Dense smoke can be observed rising across the horizon and is visible from Rotherhithe and Canada Water. Local residents have been advised to keep their windows and doors closed due to the smoke. Control officers received the first of multiple emergency calls reporting the incident at 5:32 pm.
Fire crews mobilised from multiple stations
Fire crews from Deptford, Old Kent Road, Greenwich, and several surrounding fire stations have been mobilised to respond to the fire. The scale of the emergency response indicates that the incident is being treated as a significant fire. Firefighters remain at the scene working to bring the blaze under control. No information has yet been released about the cause of the fire or whether there have been any injuries.
Train services severely disrupted
Train services to, from, and through London Bridge have been disrupted, which is thought to be connected to the fire. Some railway lines in the London Bridge area have been blocked, affecting multiple train operators. Passengers travelling through London Bridge may face cancellations, diversions, or alterations to their planned journeys.
