A couple has been ordered to pay over £1,000 after being caught red-handed fly-tipping in a residential neighbourhood. The pair were captured on CCTV carelessly dumping bags of waste, leading to their swift identification and prosecution.
Caught in the Act
Clear CCTV footage showed the couple unloading several bags of rubbish from their vehicle before driving away, leaving the waste strewn across the pavement. The incident, which took place in broad daylight, was reported to local authorities by outraged residents.
Swift Justice
Council officials traced the offenders using vehicle registration details visible in the footage. The couple were issued a £400 fixed penalty notice, but after failing to pay, the case went to court, resulting in a total fine of £1,000 plus costs.
A Warning to Others
Local environmental officers have warned that fly-tipping carries serious consequences. "This case shows we will pursue offenders and take legal action," said a council spokesperson. "There are proper waste disposal facilities available - there's simply no excuse for this behaviour."
The prosecution comes amid a nationwide crackdown on environmental crimes, with councils increasingly using CCTV and other surveillance methods to catch offenders.
