Tenerife and Gran Canaria Hit by 61km/h Winds

Weather warnings have been issued across parts of the Canary Islands, including Tenerife and Gran Canaria, as the popular holiday destination braces for strong winds. Brits holidaying in the Spanish archipelago may face blustery conditions over the coming hours.

Yellow Alerts in Force

Spain's national weather agency, Aemet, has issued yellow alerts for strong winds across several areas. Gusts are expected to reach up to 61km/h. The warnings came into effect at 6pm on June 8 and will remain in place until 9:59am on June 9.

Yellow alerts are active across the east, south, and west of Tenerife, as well as the east, west, and south of Gran Canaria. Aemet's forecast states: "Northeast wind of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) widespread, in the channel between Tenerife and Gran Canaria, and in the southeast of Gran Canaria."

El Hierro Also Affected

A yellow wind alert has also been issued for the island of El Hierro, effective from 8pm on June 8 until 8:59am on June 9. Aemet predicts: "Northeast wind of 50 to 61 km/h (force 7) widespread, mainly in the north."

Currently, no warnings have been issued for Wednesday, June 10, but this could change as conditions evolve.
