Battersea Power Station's Coaling Jetty to Host Events Until 2028
Battersea Jetty Events Extended to 2028 Under New Plan

The Coaling Jetty beside the River Thames at Battersea Power Station could continue to host pop-up events and exhibitions, such as an open-air cinema, until 2028 under a new planning application.

Proposal Details

Battersea Power Station Development Company (BPSDC) has applied for temporary permission to use the jetty for art installations, live music, markets, open-air cinema, community or charity events, exhibitions, and sports screenings. The application also seeks to retain the existing decking and bridges.

According to planning documents, the proposal is part of an exercise to identify appropriate and viable uses for the jetty, aiming to develop a permanent strategy that maximizes public benefit while respecting the surrounding context and heritage significance.

Wider Regeneration Context

The application forms part of the £9 billion regeneration of Battersea Power Station, which is divided into seven phases. So far, more than 2,200 homes have been completed, including 386 affordable homes at New Mansion Square in partnership with Peabody. The regeneration has also brought new shops, restaurants, bars, and a Northern line extension connecting Battersea to the London Underground for the first time.

More than 16 acres of land remain to be redeveloped in the remaining phases, which are being designed by BPSDC. These future phases are expected to deliver new cultural attractions, experiences, additional homes, and workplaces.

Decision Pending

Wandsworth Council will decide on the temporary permission for the jetty in due course.
