In a remarkable display of quick-thinking and skill, a life-saving air ambulance pilot executed a daring emergency landing in a stranger's field to reach a critically injured cyclist.
The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance crew were racing against the clock after a serious cycling incident in the Lincolnshire Wolds. With the nearest suitable landing spot too far away, the pilot spotted a potential solution: a local farmer's field.
Without a moment to lose, the pilot made the crucial decision to land the helicopter right there in the field, a manoeuvre that required immense precision and nerve.
The landowner, a quick-acting farmer, didn't hesitate. He immediately gave his permission for the helicopter to use his land, understanding that every second counted in the race to save a life.
Thanks to this ingenious and collaborative effort, the critical care paramedic and doctor on board the AgustaWestland 169 helicopter were able to swiftly reach the patient. They provided advanced emergency medical care directly at the scene, stabilising the cyclist for transport.
The Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance team took to social media to express their profound gratitude, stating: "A huge thank you to the kind farmer who allowed us to land in his field... your cooperation helped us provide the best possible care to the patient."
