23-year-old singer-songwriter Will Morgan has moved from Sydney to London, and his EP Telopea is attracting a growing number of fans. This week, we are premiering the video for his immersive track 'Float', which was created by his friend Gabriel Rolfe, a writer and director based in Sydney.
Behind the Video
Gabriel Rolfe explains the concept: 'The harbour was a character in the script, for the rock, the vegetation, the water to be like an indifferent witness. For me that's what 'Float' was, an experience of detachment - eerie, potentially menacing, but ultimately calm.'
When we arrived at Elizabeth Bay to shoot, the clouds rolled in, leaving little choice but to go with a mute, placid look. It was a freak blessing, as if British weather had visited Sydney just for the video.'
Q&A with Will Morgan
What are you listening to at the moment?
Anything and everything by Tim Buckley. I feel my attention span is shrinking, but the time I set aside for him is constant.
What are your plans for 2017?
I'm going to take a greater interest in strangers.
What was the first gig you ever played?
I used to busk. I believe one Tuesday was particularly fruitful, so I guess that counts.
Telopea, the new EP by Will Morgan, is out now.
