An 18-year-old man allegedly stole a truck before crashing into multiple cars and an elementary school playground in Philadelphia's Kingsessing neighborhood on Tuesday. Robert Littlepage was arrested following the wreckage, which was captured on terrifying video.
The Incident Unfolds
The incident began around 2:15 p.m. when Littlepage, who is from Georgia, allegedly attempted to carjack a woman on the 6300 block of Grays Avenue. He then stole a white utility truck that was idling near 62nd and Reedland streets, according to Philadelphia police.
Video footage shows the white utility truck speeding out of control at an intersection before slamming into another vehicle. Debris flies as the struck car spins out, and the truck veers into a nearby playground. The aftermath shows the truck on its side, with tools and supplies like wood scattered across the playground. No children were present, NBC10 reported.
Chain of Collisions
Investigators told the outlet that Littlepage fled down a street, struck a parked car, jumped a curb, and drove along a sidewalk. He then ran a red light and smashed into a second vehicle, which was caught on camera. Littlepage allegedly hit two more parked cars before veering into S Weir Mitchell Elementary School's playground, where his truck flipped onto its side.
Police confirmed that no bystanders were seriously injured in the crash. A nearby crossing guard, Jamele Ransom, told NBC10 that he rescued a child from one of the struck cars. 'I grab a kid out, because he’s stuck, frantic, pull him out,' Ransom said. 'Ain’t nobody in there. Guy’s in there. He’s trapped in there. Then I run out and get myself together because my heart is boom, boom, boom, boom.'
Arrest and Charges
Responding officers swarmed the scene and captured Littlepage. He was transported to a hospital before being arrested. The 18-year-old will face a slew of charges, including attempted carjacking, aggravated assault, and reckless driving.
In addition to the high-speed crash, Littlepage has a lengthy rap sheet and a pending case in Delaware County. Law enforcement sources told the outlet that he allegedly burglarized a home in Darby Borough on April 18.
