BBC executives are reportedly considering a significant overhaul for Strictly Come Dancing, with plans to introduce a third host when the show returns later this year. This move aims to inject new energy into the long-running dancing competition, with insiders suggesting that "nothing is off the table" in efforts to refresh the format.
Seven Contenders Vying for Hosting Roles
The network has allegedly narrowed down a shortlist to seven potential hosts, with Alex Jones, presenter of The One Show, emerging as the frontrunner. According to sources, Jones is favoured by the BBC to potentially take on a role similar to Tess Daly's on the dance floor.
Other notable names in contention include Zoe Ball, Rylan Clark, Alison Hammond, Angela Scanlon, Emma Willis, and Fleur East. These candidates are being considered to replace or join current hosts Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly, though final decisions are not expected until summer.
Professional Dancer Shake-Up Adds to Drama
This hosting speculation coincides with reports of a "brutal" shake-up among the professional dancers. Several long-standing stars are said to be leaving, including Michelle Tsiakkas, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Karen Hauer, and Nadiya Bychkova. Insiders describe the changes as devastating for those affected, with some receiving little warning.
Michelle Tsiakkas, who joined the show three years ago, was reportedly dropped unceremoniously and will not participate in the Strictly tour. She recently posted a cryptic message on social media about finding strength after a storm, hinting at the upheaval.
Katya Jones, rumoured to be facing the axe ahead of her tenth year, might be retained due to her popularity with viewers, despite past controversies. In contrast, Karen Hauer's departure has sparked criticism, with friends calling it "disgusting" and questioning the message it sends.
