Stranger Things Creators Unveil First Look at New Netflix Horror Series
Netflix has revealed the first glimpse of a chilling new horror series from the executive producers behind the global phenomenon Stranger Things. Titled Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, the show is set to premiere on the streaming platform in late March, marking a significant new venture for the acclaimed creators.
A Sinister Premise for a New Horror Hit
The series follows a bride and groom during the tense week leading up to their wedding, which is destined for disaster. All eight episodes of the suspenseful narrative will be available to stream from March 26, offering subscribers a complete binge-worthy experience. The project originates from screenwriter Haley Z. Boston, who successfully pitched her twisted vision to Matt and Ross Duffer.
"We were absolutely floored when we first read Haley's script," the Duffer Brothers stated. "She represents a major new talent with a truly singular voice—her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and unmistakably Haley. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to be producing her debut show and are eager to share her unique vision with audiences worldwide."
Production and Cast Details
This series becomes the inaugural non-Stranger Things project released under the Duffers' production banner, Upside Down Pictures. Directing duties are shared by Weronika Tofilska (known for Baby Reindeer), Axelle Carolyn (of The Midnight Club), and Lisa Brühlmann (from Killing Eve).
The lead roles of the ill-fated couple are portrayed by Camila Morrone (from Daisy Jones & The Six and The Night Manager) and Adam DiMarco (star of The White Lotus and Overcompensating). They are supported by a formidable cast including Jennifer Jason Leigh, Ted Levine, and Gus Birney.
The Legacy of Stranger Things and Future Projects
The Duffer Brothers achieved monumental success with Stranger Things, which concluded as one of Netflix's most-watched series ever on New Year's Day. The finale, which saw the heroes of Hawkins, Indiana, ultimately defeat the villain Vecna through the combined powers of Eleven and Will Byers, sparked intense debate among fans regarding its ambiguous ending.
Regarding the fate of Eleven, Ross Duffer commented, "Our intention and hope were to leave it ultimately to the fans and the audience to decide what they believe, just as we left it to our characters in that basement to determine their own beliefs."
Looking ahead, Upside Down Pictures has another science-fiction series, The Boroughs, featuring Geena Davis and Bill Pullman, scheduled for release later this year. This expansion signals the Duffers' commitment to cultivating diverse and compelling genre storytelling beyond their iconic flagship series.
