BBC presenter Sara Cox has broken her silence on a captivating new television project while reflecting on her recent, physically gruelling charity challenge. The broadcaster opened up about both ventures during Thursday's edition of BBC Morning Live, which she co-hosted with Greg Rutherford.
A Marvellous New BBC Venture
During the live broadcast, conversation turned to Cox's latest career move. Her co-host, Greg Rutherford, 39, prompted the discussion, highlighting "another fantastic new show" that was "really exciting". He was referring to The Marvellous Miniature Workshop, a new series fronted by Cox.
The 50-year-old presenter eagerly shared details with viewers. "The Marvellous Miniature Workshop back today, 2pm, BBC One. All six episodes are up on iPlayer now," she announced, before joking that viewers should finish watching Morning Live first.
She described the unique format of the programme, explaining: "It all starts with a story from a person about a really important moment or time in their life. And then our fantastic miniatures recreate the place where it happened, but in teeny tiny forms." Following a preview clip, Cox added that the settings could range from "a coal mine in Yorkshire" to "a 1980s maths classroom", praising the result as "beautiful".
Recovering from an Epic Charity Feat
The discussion also provided Cox with a platform to reflect on her extraordinary physical endeavour just last month. The presenter undertook the Great Northern marathon challenge, covering a staggering 135 miles on foot across four counties: Northumberland, Durham, North Yorkshire, and West Yorkshire.
This mammoth effort, equivalent to running five marathons over five consecutive days, was in aid of Children in Need. It proved phenomenally successful, raising an incredible over £9.5 million. Cox branded the experience the "maddest, most painful, wonderful thing I've ever, ever done".
On Morning Live, she expressed her profound gratitude: "Thank you to everybody who donated. I mean, incredible effort, guys." Discussing her recovery, she confessed to being "pretty sore" for a week afterwards but had recently ventured out for a "very little run".
This led to an amusing anecdote where a concerned dog-walker spotted her and exclaimed, "Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no. What are you doing? No, you shouldn't be doing that." Cox laughed as she recalled telling herself to "just go inside!", assuring viewers she is now fully recovered.
Where and When to Watch
The Marvellous Miniature Workshop continues its run on BBC One, with episodes available to stream in full on BBC iPlayer. Sara Cox's appearance on BBC Morning Live aired on Thursday, 4 December 2025.
