Poker Face Axed: Peacock Cancels Hit Detective Series After 2 Seasons
Poker Face cancelled after two seasons despite 97% rating

Fans of the critically acclaimed detective series Poker Face have been left reeling after the shock announcement that the show has been cancelled after just two seasons.

End of the Road for Charlie Cale

The series, which boasted an impressive 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, will not be returning for a third outing on streaming platform Peacock. In a further blow to devotees, it was revealed that Natasha Lyonne, who played the lead character Charlie Cale, has exited the series.

Poker Face first hit screens in 2023 on Peacock and found a dedicated UK audience through Sky Max. The show followed Lyonne's character Charlie, who possessed an extraordinary ability to detect when people were lying. Her unique talent saw her travelling from place to place, helping to solve homicides by discerning the truth.

The cancellation news broke through industry publication Deadline, which revealed that Peacock had decided against renewing the show. This decision comes despite the series featuring an impressive roster of guest stars including Cynthia Erivo, Adrien Brody, Steve Buscemi, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Katie Holmes.

Fan Outrage and Disappointment

Viewers quickly took to social media platform X to express their dismay at the show's abrupt ending. One devastated fan wrote: 'Poker Face was cancelled??? It was a great show.'

Another expressed confusion at the decision, stating: 'I don't understand Poker Face getting cancelled. I really don't. What another Peacock show do you guys know about coz I don't know a single other show.'

The sentiment was echoed by others who praised the show's originality in a television landscape dominated by reboots. One comment read: 'Actually crying because both Poker Face and English Teacher got cancelled literally two fantastic ORIGINAL shows in a sea of reboots just swept under the rug.'

The strength of feeling among the fanbase was undeniable, with another social media user declaring: 'Poker face got cancelled im actually so done.'

A Potential Revival with New Leadership

Despite the cancellation, there may be hope for Poker Face enthusiasts. Creator Rian Johnson has revealed plans to potentially continue the series in a different iteration. In what would represent a major overhaul, Game of Thrones star Peter Dinklage is being considered to take over the lead role.

Speaking to Deadline, the 51-year-old director expressed his enthusiasm for the concept. 'Look, it's very early days. We're gonna see if we can take it out and get it going,' Johnson said.

He added: 'I love Peter, I've always wanted to work with him. And I would be so excited if we can get this version of it up and going. It's a wild swing, and I just feel like it could be so much fun, going forward with the show.'

While details remain scarce about how Dinklage would fit into the Poker Face universe, the potential casting of the acclaimed actor suggests the series could be reinvented rather than completely abandoned. For now, fans must wait to see if this radical new vision for the beloved detective series comes to fruition.
