Beloved sitcom star Patricia Heaton, famed for her role as Debra Barone in Everybody Loves Raymond, was spotted enjoying a casual stroll with her husband, English actor David Hunt, in a blustery Los Angeles this week. The sighting comes just weeks after the couple publicly announced their decision to leave California for a new life in Nashville, Tennessee.
A Casual Outing Before a Major Move
The 67-year-old actress, who has maintained a trim figure, opted for a relaxed ensemble of a pale grey sweatshirt and flowing Adidas sweatpants. Her 72-year-old husband, Hunt, complemented her look by zipping himself into a full Adidas tracksuit for their joint exercise session. The pair, married since 1990, share four grown sons: Samuel, John, Joseph, and Daniel.
Heaton explained their decision to depart Los Angeles in a recent interview on The Rubin Report, citing high taxes, rising crime, and increasing homelessness. "We're not working in LA as much as we're working outside of LA," she told host Dave Rubin. "So why don't we leave?"
Enduring Careers and Shared Screen Time
Patricia Heaton rocketed to international fame and became a household name through her iconic role on CBS's Everybody Loves Raymond, which aired for nine successful seasons from 1996 to 2005. For her portrayal of the perpetually exasperated Debra, she won two Primetime Emmy Awards out of seven nominations, along with a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Remarkably, four years after that show's finale, Heaton landed another hit sitcom, starring as Frankie Heck on ABC's The Middle from 2009 to 2018—another nine-season run. Her husband, David Hunt, also featured in the Everybody Loves Raymond universe, playing a recurring guest role as the Barones' neighbour, Bill, whom Ray despised.
Hunt's career includes a prominent role in the 1988 Clint Eastwood film The Dead Pool, the fifth and final instalment in the Dirty Harry franchise. His television credits also encompass guest spots on series like 24, Monk, Mad Men, and Castle.
A Lasting Marriage and Personal Beliefs
In a past interview with Closer magazine, Heaton opened up about the secrets to her long-lasting marriage. "The secret to a happy, successful marriage is realizing it’s not always going to feel happy or successful," she advised. "It’s about how it builds character and teaches you compassion."
As empty nesters, she noted they were "picking up where we left off before our boys came," after raising their four sons in "quick succession" during the 1990s.
Heaton is also known for her political activism, standing as one of Hollywood's few open conservatives for many years. A devout Christian, she advocates for causes including opposition to abortion and support for Israel. She was a longtime Republican but left the party following the January 6 U.S. Capitol riot and now identifies as an independent.
The actress recently paid a heartfelt tribute to her The Middle co-star Pat Finn, who died aged 60 after a battle with cancer just before Christmas. "One of the finest and funniest human beings I know has left to be with Jesus," she wrote on social media.
With their LA chapter closing, the couple's sighting this week marks a transitional moment for two enduring figures of American television, as they prepare for their next adventure in Nashville.
