Channel 4's acclaimed detective drama Patience is set for a major comeback, with its highly anticipated second series launching this week. The show, which became one of the broadcaster's standout hits of 2025, returns to screens with more intricate mysteries and compelling character dynamics centred on its unique autistic heroine.
When and Where to Watch Patience Series 2
The wait is finally over for fans. Patience series two will premiere on Channel 4 on Wednesday, 7 January. The first episode will air at the prime time slot of 9pm. The series will then continue with a weekly double-bill, broadcasting on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings at the same time.
In total, viewers can look forward to eight new episodes this season. Lead actress Ella Maisy Purvis, who reprises her role as the titular character, has teased an action-packed run, stating she was "bursting at the seams" to dive back into Patience's world.
Who's Who in the Cast?
Ella Maisy Purvis once again leads the ensemble as Patience Evans, the meticulous autistic archivist whose brilliant, self-taught criminology mind proves invaluable to the Yorkshire Police. She is joined by returning favourites including Nathan Welsh as DS Jake Hunter, Mark Benton as Calvin Baxter, and Adrian Rawlins as Douglas Gilmore.
The new series also sees the welcome return of Ali Ariaie, Connor Curren, Liza Sadovy, and Tom Lewis as Patience's colleague and new romantic interest, Elliot Scott.
The most significant new addition to the cast is acclaimed actress Jessica Hynes, who joins as Detective Inspector Frankie Monroe. Hynes's character, a brusque and motorbike-riding transfer from another force, arrives early and immediately shakes up the department, creating a challenging new dynamic for Patience.
What to Expect in the New Series
Series two promises to throw Patience Evans out of her cherished comfort zone. The synopsis reveals that DI Frankie Monroe initially finds Patience irritating and questions her role on the team. However, as Patience's unique skills help untangle a series of twisted crimes, the new boss begins to see her true value.
This season delves deeply into relationships for Patience. Her fledgling romance with Elliot Scott develops, though not without its hurdles. At work, despite being part of the team, she continues to feel the need to prove herself. Most dramatically, Patience will discover a new relationship that shakes her to the core and forces her to question her past.
The crimes this season are as captivating as ever, taking the team to iconic locations across York. The investigations will include a mysterious case leading to York Minster, a murder in the city's famed train museum, and a trail of magic that culminates in a thrilling chase through a Hall of Mirrors. With a new PR consultant also stirring things up at the station, Patience's second series is set to be an unmissable chapter of British television.
