Marshals Star Arielle Kebbel Opens Up About Yellowstone Casting Disappointment
Actress Arielle Kebbel has candidly revealed her initial frustration at not being cast in the original Yellowstone series, while enthusiastically discussing her upcoming role in the highly anticipated spin-off Marshals: A Yellowstone Story. The new Western drama, created by Spencer Hudnut as a follow-up to Taylor Sheridan's flagship series, is set to premiere on CBS and Paramount+ in early March.
From Frustration to Fulfillment in the Yellowstone Universe
During a recent appearance on CBS Mornings, Kebbel admitted with a laugh, "I was angry! Every time I watched it and I wasn't in a scene, I was angry!" The actress described how she persistently pursued opportunities within the Yellowstone franchise, regularly contacting her management team to inquire about potential roles. "I got an email or a phone call from me at least once a week," she confessed, asking "What's happening? When can I meet? Is there a role?"
Kebbel's determination eventually paid off when she learned about the Marshals spin-off through her former co-star Luke Grimes, who reprises his role as Kayce Dutton. "I worked with Luke on Fifty Shades Freed, and he's so wonderful," she recalled. "I saw Luke was doing a spin-off... I asked and then a week later I was in Austin at the ATX Festival and I got the call for Belle."
Marshals: Continuing the Yellowstone Legacy
The new series follows Kayce Dutton as he joins an elite squad of US Marshals dispensing justice across Montana while balancing his responsibilities as a parent. This spin-off represents one of several Yellowstone derivatives in development following the conclusion of the original series in 2024 after five successful seasons.
Despite the franchise's need to adapt after Kevin Costner's departure as John Dutton, Marshals promises to retain beloved elements that have defined the Yellowstone universe. Kebbel teased one particularly exciting feature: "One of the really nice elements to our show is, throughout the season, we're able to bring on a number of country stars, and I think you'll recognise all of them."
Country Music Connections and Casting Details
This musical tradition continues a pattern established across the Yellowstone franchise, which has featured prominent country artists including:
- Lainey Wilson in the original Yellowstone series
- Faith Hill and Tim McGraw in the prequel 1883
- Riley Green, who appears to have secured a role in Marshals based on trailer footage
Interestingly, lead actor Luke Grimes has himself embarked on a country music career, with his debut album Redbird scheduled for release in early April. Kebbel will portray Belle Skinner, a fellow US Marshal in the series, bringing her long-held admiration for Sheridan's Yellowstone world to fruition.
Marshals: A Yellowstone Story makes its debut on Sunday, 1st March on CBS, with streaming available on Paramount+ beginning the following Monday. The series represents both a continuation of the Yellowstone legacy and a new chapter for actors like Kebbel who have eagerly awaited their opportunity to join this expansive television universe.
