Marshals: A Yellowstone Story Cast and Where You've Seen Them Before

The highly anticipated Yellowstone spin-off, Marshals: A Yellowstone Story, has officially premiered, bringing back fan-favorite character Kayce Dutton, portrayed by Luke Grimes, in an action-packed new series. The show debuted on CBS in the United States on Sunday, 1st March, with new episodes becoming available globally each Monday on the Paramount+ streaming platform.

Continuing the Dutton Saga

Picking up the narrative threads from the fifth and concluding season of Taylor Sheridan's acclaimed Western drama, this new series follows Kayce Dutton as he becomes part of an elite team of U.S. Marshals dedicated to combating violent crime across the state of Montana. With a massive audience of Yellowstone enthusiasts expected to watch, many will be curious about the backgrounds of the show's impressive ensemble, which blends returning stars with exciting new talent.

Returning Yellowstone Veterans

Luke Grimes reprises his central role as Kayce Dutton. Beyond the Yellowstone universe, Grimes recently featured in the film Eddington alongside Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal. He is also widely recognized for playing Elliot Grey, the younger brother of Christian Grey, in the Fifty Shades of Grey film trilogy.

Brecken Merrill returns as Kayce's on-screen son, Tate Dutton. Outside of the Western franchise, Merrill appeared in the 2025 thriller Lifeline.

Two other key figures from the original series are confirmed to return:

  • Gil Birmingham as Chief Thomas Rainwater, the Chairman of the Broken Rock Reservation. Birmingham is known for his roles in Taylor Sheridan's films Wind River and Hell or High Water, and for portraying Billy Black in the Twilight film series.
  • Mo Brings Plenty as Mo, the trusted aide to Chief Rainwater. His previous credits include Jurassic World Dominion, Dead Man's Hand, and television series The Good Lord Bird and Lawmen: Bass Reeves.

New Additions to the Marshal Team

The main cast is bolstered by four newcomers playing Kayce's colleagues in the U.S. Marshals service:

  1. Arielle Kebbel portrays Belle Skinner. Kebbel is known for The Vampire Diaries, Gilmore Girls, and she previously co-starred with Luke Grimes in Fifty Shades Freed.
  2. Ash Santos plays Andrea Cruz. Santos has appeared in American Horror Story, the Lindsay Lohan film Our Little Secret, Mayor of Kingstown, and Pulse.
  3. Tatanka Means takes on the role of Miles Kittle. Means is recognized for Killers of the Flower Moon, the Western series The Son, Reservation Dogs, and Kevin Costner's Horizon film series.
  4. Logan Marshall-Green appears as Pete Calvin. His notable roles include Spider-Man: Homecoming, Prometheus, Upgrade, and the miniseries When They See Us.

Recurring and Guest Stars

Brett Cullen (The West Wing) is set for recurring appearances as Harry Gifford, the head of Montana's U.S. Marshals unit who harbors distrust towards Kayce and the Dutton family.

Ellyn Jameson Barry also has a recurring role as Dolly Weaver. The first season has featured guest appearances from Chad Michael Collins (Sniper) as Owen Kilborn and Loren Anthony (The Lone Ranger) as Jim Kane.

Special Musical Cameos

Adding to the excitement, main cast member Arielle Kebbel has hinted that several recognisable country music stars will make guest appearances throughout the series. This includes singer Riley Green making his acting debut, while other artists will perform their hit songs in cameo roles. Viewers should keep an eye out for these familiar musical faces.
