ITV's Lorraine and Loose Women Set for Return After Budget Cuts Break
Lorraine and Loose Women Return Dates Confirmed Post-ITV Cuts

ITV Daytime Shows Lorraine and Loose Women to Resume Broadcasting

ITV has officially announced the return dates for its flagship daytime programmes, Lorraine and Loose Women, following an extended hiatus prompted by significant budget reductions. The broadcaster implemented sweeping cuts last year, which included reducing the annual output of these long-running shows to just 30 weeks per year.

Schedule Adjustments and Return Details

Since early March, Good Morning Britain and This Morning have continued to air as usual, with Good Morning Britain extending its runtime by half an hour after Lorraine was scaled back. The 12:30pm slot, typically reserved for Loose Women, has been filled by ITV News and game show repeats during the break.

Loose Women will be the first to make its comeback, returning to screens on Monday, April 27th. The panel for the inaugural episode will feature anchor Christine Lampard, alongside regulars Coleen Nolan, former I'm A Celebrity... contestant Jane Moore, and ex-EastEnders actress Nadia Sawalha. Notably, Moore and Sawalha were part of the very first episode of Loose Women in 1999, adding a nostalgic touch to the revival.

Lorraine Kelly's Show Faces Format Changes

Lorraine will follow a week later, with Lorraine Kelly set to return on May 4th. Her eponymous chat show has undergone substantial changes, including a reduction in running time to just half an hour. Previously, hosting duties were shared with others such as Christine Lampard and Ranvir Singh, but following the cuts, Lorraine now fronts all five weekly episodes herself.

In response to the budget adjustments, Lorraine Kelly expressed gratitude for still being able to continue her work. She remarked, "I'm just glad that we're still there. We've still managed to save some jobs. A lot of my team are going to This Morning. And so yeah, it's not my decision. It wasn't a decision that I made." She emphasised her appreciation for the privilege of interviewing notable guests and maintaining regular contributors like Dr. Hilary and Ross King.

ITV's Strategic Rationale Behind the Cuts

ITV Media and Entertainment Managing Director Kevin Lygo explained that the scheduling changes, implemented in January, aimed to generate savings amid rising costs while preserving on-air talent. He stated, "Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust." Lygo highlighted that the savings would allow reinvestment in other genres and bolster ITV's news operations.

The return of these beloved programmes marks a new chapter for ITV's daytime lineup, as the broadcaster navigates financial pressures while striving to maintain its commitment to quality entertainment and journalism.
