The highly anticipated second season of Landman has officially premiered on Paramount Plus, with fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter following the dramatic season one finale.
Created by Taylor Sheridan of Yellowstone fame, the series features Hollywood veteran Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a crisis manager working for an oil company in West Texas.
Evolving Relationships and New Dynamics
Since the first season, Tommy's circumstances have significantly changed, with him now occupying the position of president at M-Tex Oil. However, in an exclusive interview, Thornton revealed this professional advancement isn't the only transformation for his character.
During the initial season, Tommy frequently found himself in conflict with tough-talking solicitor Rebecca Falcone, played by Kayla Wallace. When questioned about whether their dynamic would shift in the new episodes, Thornton humorously remarked, "Well, it's too late for her now; she's in the fold."
"She's in the family now so she's gotta deal with me a little bit," he continued. "And Kayla Wallace who plays her - she's such a sweet person. It's hard sometimes... any time I had to say mean things to Kayla or she had to say them to me... I mean she's Canadian, so she had to apologise after saying stuff like 'Are you ok?'"
The actor confirmed that while "the relationship does soften up some," they "still do have our sparring matches."
Deepening Family Connections
Thornton also elaborated on the evolving dynamics between Tommy and his children, Ainsley (Michelle Randolph) and Cooper (Jacob Lofland), in the upcoming season.
"There's absolutely more stuff with Cooper," Thornton revealed. "I mean, the first season is honestly just us either ignoring each other or getting in an argument over something. This year there's some of that, but you will get to see how much Tommy loves his kid and his ex wife/wife."
He further detailed what audiences can expect from the new episodes, explaining: "In terms of characters, you're going to see a lot more this season of the family dynamic and what's really at the core of each person."
"Because in the first season, you had Taylor setting up the oil business. We had to explain the oil business, introduce all the characters and all the players in it. And now the audience knows this, so we really get to dive deep."
What to Expect in the New Season
The official synopsis for Landman season 2 on Paramount Plus sets the stage for heightened drama: "In Season Two, as oil rises from the earth, so do secrets - and Tommy Norris's (Thornton) breaking point may be closer than he realises."
It continues: "Facing mounting pressure from M-Tex Oil, Cami Miller (Moore), and the shadow of his kin, survival in West Texas isn't noble - it's brutal. And sooner or later something's got to break."
The series, described as "a modern tale of fortune seeking amongst roughnecks and wildcat billionaires" set in West Texas boomtowns, explores how the oil boom reshapes "the climate, the economy and geopolitics."
Landman season 2 continues to air weekly on Sundays exclusively on Paramount Plus.
