Ken Leung Departs Industry as Eric Tao in Dramatic Season 4 Episode
In a stunning turn of events, Ken Leung has officially left the hit series Industry as his character Eric Tao, confirmed during season 4, episode 6 titled Dear Henry. This pivotal episode, airing on BBC and HBO, delivered jaw-dropping twists that left fans reeling, particularly with the emotional exit of one of the show's central figures.
Shocking Revelations Lead to Eric Tao's Exit
The episode featured major plot developments for characters like Whitney Halberstram, played by Max Minghella, and Henry Muck, portrayed by Kit Harington. However, the most dramatic twist centered on Eric Tao. After enjoying an evening with his daughter, Eric received a shocking text message containing evidence of his past interactions with 'Hotel Girl' Dolly. The message included a photo of Dolly's passport, revealing she was just 14 years old, a revelation that sent Eric into a tailspin.
Faced with immense stakes, Eric made a rash decision: he handed over SternTao to Harper Stern, played by Myha'la, without any explanation. He was last seen walking down a street in America, seemingly ending both their business partnership and long-standing friendship. This moment marked not only the conclusion of SternTao but also the end of a four-year creative collaboration between Eric and Harper.
Actors Confirm Eric Tao's Permanent Departure
Fans have been speculating whether Eric's exit is permanent, and actors Ken Leung and Myha'la have now confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that his character's time on the show is indeed over. Myha'la expressed her reaction, stating, "When I read episode six, I was like 'damn, they killed my bro'. I literally was like, that’s crazy, and it’s so sad. We worked so hard to build this thing and now you’re just going to leave me."
Leung elaborated on Eric's ambiguous departure, noting, "I think it ends in such a way that any interpretation is correct. All we know is that he’s on a vaguely reckless walk, being that it’s right down the middle of a street that cars drive down. So there is a defiance to it, an, 'I dare you to knock me off this street, I dare you to honk at me' type of thing. He’s also walking with purpose. But the show doesn’t tell us where he’s going or what he’s feeling."
Industry's First End-Credits Scene Bids Farewell to Eric
In a series first, Industry featured a character in its end-credits scene, with Eric walking down a long, barren road away from the camera as the credits rolled on Dear Henry. This poignant moment served as the show's official goodbye to Eric. Leung confirmed in a separate interview with TV Insider that, to his knowledge, there are no plans for his return.
Reflecting on the emotional farewell, Leung shared, "It did for me, because as far as I knew, it was our last scene, which remains. As far as I know, it’s our last scene. So there was that in it. And even though we’re friends and remain friends, and hopefully we’ll be friends forever, to have what we created the past six years come to an endpoint, it’s very poignant. It’s not just sad. There’s celebration in it. It’s everything. It’s beautiful."
Industry season 4 continues to air on HBO and HBO Max in the USA on Sundays, and on BBC iPlayer and BBC One in the UK on Mondays, keeping audiences hooked with its intense drama and character arcs.
