ITV's Red Eye Faces Viewer Backlash Over Sound Quality Issues

ITV's new thriller series 'Red Eye' has drawn criticism from viewers who complain about poor sound quality due to excessive background music. The six-part drama, which began airing on Sunday, May 5, follows Dr Matthew Nolan (Richard Armitage), who is accused of murder after a trip to China and is extradited back to Beijing.

Episode three aired on Sunday, continuing the story as Dr Nolan recounts events in Beijing. DC Hana Li (Jing Lusi) is the British police officer assigned to escort him back to China, but she becomes entangled in a conspiracy when incidents occur on the flight. Meanwhile, her half-sister Jess Li (Jemma Moore), a journalist, investigates a mysterious company.

Despite the plot's twists and turns, many viewers took to social media within minutes of the episode to express frustration. One user wrote on X: 'Does #RedEye have music all the way through every bloody episode? @ITV.' Another added: '#Redeye Dialogue is painful.' A third exclaimed: 'First bit of #redeye where they don't whisper and they've stuck some s*** loud music over the top of it.'

Some viewers threatened to stop watching, with one stating: 'This is a load of s*** why am I still watching it #redeye.' Another commented: 'I’m on the second ep of #redeye and it’s the worst thing I’ve seen in some time. Just annoyed I need to watch it to see what happens.'

'Red Eye' airs on ITV at 9pm on Sundays and is available to stream on ITVX.
