ITV's new drama 'Gone', starring Eve Myles and David Morrissey, has received a mixed reception from viewers, with many taking to social media to express disappointment after the first episode. The series, which premiered on March 8, follows the disappearance of a headmaster's wife and the subsequent police investigation.
Critics on X, formerly Twitter, labelled the show 'slow, boring, predictable', with some admitting they 'switched off' early. One user wrote: 'Not sure I can stay with this, slow, boring, predictable #Gone.' Another commented: 'fell out with ITV drama’s lately because I got bored of them all following the same sort of story, thought i’d give #Gone a chance tonight and turned off already.'
Despite the backlash, the series also garnered praise, particularly for its cast. David Morrissey's performance was highlighted as 'outstanding', and some viewers found the show engaging, with one saying: 'binge watching #Gone now. Great performances. Lovely scenery.'
Daily Mail's TV critic Christopher Stevens awarded the drama five stars, describing Morrissey's portrayal of the headmaster as 'superb' and praising the show's ability to convey 'secret panic and turmoil'. The series also features Emma Appleton, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Claire Goose, Clare Higgins, Peter McDonald, and Elliot Cowan.
