ITV Cancels Daytime Game Show Jeopardy! After Two Series

ITV has reportedly axed the daytime game show Jeopardy! after only two series, with no plans for a revival. The programme, which was hosted by national treasure Sir Stephen Fry, launched with high expectations on New Year's Day in 2024 but will not return for a third season.

Show Details and Format

The first series of Jeopardy! consisted of 20 episodes, while the second season, which began in March 2025, featured an extended run of 25 episodes. The show aired every weekday at 4pm on ITV, following the format of the immensely popular American version that debuted on NBC in 1964.

Contestants competed for cash prizes by selecting different categories and accumulating winnings, with stakes increasing as the game progressed. The programme included a Signature Jeopardy! round that offered participants an enhanced opportunity to win more money.

Fan Reaction and Host Comments

Fans expressed their disappointment on social media platform X following the news of the cancellation. One viewer remarked, "We were robbed," while another added, "Very disappointing." Others noted that they enjoyed the show, with one commenter stating, "Ah that's a shame, I enjoyed it, certainly better than DOND or Tipping Point."

Before the show's launch, host Stephen Fry, 68, highlighted the appeal of challenging quizzes in Britain, saying, "There are so many pub quizzes and quizzing leagues around Britain and so many professional quizzers. We enjoy shows that don't shy away from fairly tough questions and areas of knowledge. We love to watch people who are good at something."

History of Jeopardy! in the UK

This was not the first attempt to bring the classic US game show to British television. Channel 4 broadcast a version hosted by Derek Hobson between 1983 and 1984. ITV revived the programme from September 1990 to April 1993, with Chris Donat and later Steve Jones as hosts.

The show then moved to Sky One for another revival attempt from December 1995 to June 1996, featuring Paul Ross, brother of Jonathan Ross, as the host. The latest ITV iteration, despite Fry's involvement and a faithful adaptation of the American format, has now been cancelled after two series.

According to reports, no explanation has been provided for ITV's decision to axe the show. The broadcaster has been contacted for comment regarding the cancellation.
