The runtime for House of the Dragon season three has been confirmed, with the premiere set to break records and deliver an epic viewing experience. The episode, airing on June 21, 2026, will run for 72 minutes, making it one of the longest in the series, just shy of the season two finale's 73 minutes.
Battle of the Gullet Takes Center Stage
The season three premiere will depict the Battle of the Gullet, a pivotal naval conflict from George R.R. Martin's novels. Showrunner Ryan Condal described the sequence as unlike anything seen on television before, comparing it to the Battle of Helm's Deep from The Lord of the Rings but even more ambitious. The production involved two fully interactive ship sets on separate gimbals, a wet tank, a dry tank, an underwater tank, four boat sets, and three million litres of water. Stunt choreography required weeks of training for the cast.
Record-Breaking Stunts
The series has already set a new world record for the most stunt performers set on fire in a single sequence: 23, surpassing the previous record held by Game of Thrones (20). The teaser also revealed a stunt crowd of 15,000, 3,500 props, and 25 tons of propane used during filming. Condal stated that this season is the most action-packed yet, with the Gullet battle being just the beginning.
