Fans of the hit television show Gogglebox have been treated to a delightful glimpse into the past, as one of its most beloved stars shared a charming childhood photograph that left viewers utterly charmed.
An Adorable Blast from the Past
Married couple Sue and Steve Sheehan, who have been fan favourites since joining the Channel 4 cast in 2019, regularly connect with their audience on social media. Their latest post, however, caused a particular stir. The pair posted a nostalgic throwback snap from 1958, featuring a three-year-old Sue attending preschool.
In the sweet black-and-white image, a young Sue is almost unrecognisable. She sports dark, curly locks and a serious expression as she glares at the camera. Dressed in a traditional white dress and smart shoes, the photo captures a moment in time long before her television fame. The caption on Instagram read, "Sue at 3 years old in 1958 #preschool #livingherbestlife."
Fan Adoration and Family Life
The response from followers was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. The comment section flooded with affectionate remarks, with one fan simply writing "Adorable" and another calling her a "Wee cutie." Others felt a wave of nostalgia, with one person chiming in, "I wonder how many of us' 50's babies had a photo with the same clothes on Sue&Steve??! Xx." Another admirer went so far as to dub her "Our English Shirley Temple," while one declared the image "Cuteness overload."
The couple, both in their 60s, have been married for an impressive almost 47 years. Steve is a retired black cab driver, and Sue is semi-retired. They have two daughters; their firstborn, Leah, celebrated her 40th birthday in 2022, and they also have a grandson named Roman. Viewers have often expressed admiration for their stunning South London home, which is reportedly valued at over £700,000.
Raising Awareness and Showing Support
In a more recent and personal revelation, Sue explained her extended absence from the show was due to a diagnosis of Bell's Palsy, a condition that causes temporary weakness or paralysis in the facial muscles. She shared with viewers that she had to "relearn" certain things, specifically mentioning speaking and chewing.
"Chewing takes a long time," Sue explained. Ever the supportive husband, Steve joked, "I have offered to chew your food for you, but you declined. I've gotta say, you haven't lost the sharp side of your tongue though, have you?" To which Sue promptly replied, "No, it's sharper than ever, actually."
Fans were quick to rally around Sue, praising her for her honesty and for using her platform to raise awareness about the condition. The couple's resilience and humour continue to endear them to the nation. Gogglebox continues to air on Channel 4 on Fridays at 9pm.
