Netflix has officially greenlit a sixth season of its hit romantic comedy Emily in Paris, decisively ending any fears of cancellation after the recent debut of its fifth instalment.
Record-breaking success secures future
The streaming giant revealed the renewal hot on the heels of Season 5's launch, which saw protagonist Emily Cooper, played by Lily Collins, expand her adventures beyond the French capital. The decision was fuelled by impressive viewership data: the latest series amassed a staggering 26.8 million views globally in just its first two weeks on the platform. It soared to become the number one TV show in 24 countries, including France, Italy, Brazil, and Germany.
Creator's vision and fan reaction
Show creator Darren Star had already hinted at future plans during a press conference back in December 2025. While confirming Paris as the show's permanent home base, he expressed a desire to take audiences on journeys to new locations. "There’s a lot of places I’d love to visit. But I think the show organically [follows] the storyline," Star explained. "If I can take the audience on a journey somewhere else, I would love that … [It’s] fun to think about."
The confirmation of Season 6 has been met with widespread relief from the show's dedicated fanbase, though many are clamouring for a change of scenery. Suggestions from viewers have ranged from "Emily in Las Vegas" to "Emily in Chicago," with one fan pleading: "Can we have a 'Emily in Chicago' she needs to go home and see her friends and family!"
Fans demand longevity and celebrate survival
Other viewers have begged Netflix to commit to the series long-term, referencing the platform's history of axing beloved shows. One supporter tweeted: "Never ever cancel this show please. Rare deadly serious tweet." Another fan celebrated the show's resilience, noting: "Emily has officially survived more break-ups, bad outfits, and cancelled shows than anyone else on Netflix. At this point she deserves dual citizenship in Paris and in the algorithm."
Not all reaction has been uncritical, however. Some have questioned the show's enduring success, with one person quipping: "How is this show still going? Season 6 is insane for a series where the protagonist hasn't learned a single word of French in half a decade. Netflix will cancel every masterpiece but keep this fever dream alive forever."
Despite the mixed critiques, the overwhelming viewer demand and formidable streaming numbers have made the renewal of Emily in Paris an inevitable decision for Netflix. All five existing seasons are currently available to stream on the platform.
