Death in Paradise: Solomon's 'Mask Slips' as Danger Escalates

Death in Paradise Star Daniel Ward Issues Warning Over Solomon's Dark Turn

Daniel Ward, the actor portraying Solomon in the beloved BBC detective series Death in Paradise, has issued a stark warning to fans as his character's "mask slips" in an upcoming episode. In an exclusive interview, Ward hinted at a deeper exploration of Solomon's troubled past and the escalating danger for DI Mervin Wilson.

Grave Peril for DI Mervin in Antigua

The latest instalment of the series saw DI Mervin, played by Don Gilet, make a bold decision to travel to Antigua in search of his long-lost brother Solomon. The situation rapidly deteriorated, culminating in Mervin being abducted and bound to a chair at the episode's conclusion. Ward explained that circumstances will only worsen for the unsuspecting detective in the eagerly awaited episode airing on Monday, March 9.

"His brother is a troublemaker, and he's made some trouble," Ward disclosed. "Mervin has gone to find his brother and has ended up, seemingly, kidnapped in Antigua. I think it's a sad realisation of what the brothers thought might happen."

He added, "At the end of episode two, when Solomon does leave Saint Marie, he says, 'We're not good for each other', and I think DI Mervin ending up in a chair somewhere in Antigua tied up is only proof of that."

Solomon's Charming Facade Begins to Crumble

Solomon arrived on the programme with considerable flair, bursting into the detective's world with his flamboyant red motor and a vivid pink flamingo. He succeeded in captivating everyone he encountered through his magnetism before disappearing without trace. Ward hinted that this charm is a deliberate tactic.

"The thing about Solomon is that his natural reaction to things is to be charming, to be a sycophant to disarm people through his charm and playfulness," Ward revealed. "That's his natural demeanour, but I think throughout the series we see that mask slip and tonight that mask begins to drop. We begin to see more of what he is actually like as a person and how he got to that place."

Viewers Urged to Watch for Clues to Brothers' Troubled Past

The actor cautioned viewers to watch carefully for subtle clues about the brothers' backstory as they frantically attempt to work out Solomon's genuine intentions. He stressed the importance of their shared history.

"I'd like fans to keep an eye out for the history of the brothers," Ward emphasised. "I think we know Mervin's grown up in care, and he's had a troubled past, and Solomon has had a troubled past. It's interesting how those two experiences interact."

He elaborated, "There are certainly parallels in terms of having a troubled childhood in a number of ways. You see that sometimes it makes one person go one way, and it makes another person go another. That's one of the things I found most interesting because, certainly with Mervin, there's an alternate future where he might have gone down a different route, and that's why sometimes he's more miserable. They're very different, but they share history, and that's manifested differently in them as adults."

Death in Paradise continues to captivate audiences with its blend of mystery and character drama, available to watch on BBC One. Fans are advised to stay tuned for the unfolding drama as Solomon's true nature is revealed.
