Coronation Street star Sue Devaney has revealed that her character Debbie Webster's upcoming wedding to Ronnie Bailey will be fraught with tension, thanks to her warring siblings Kevin and Carl. The 58-year-old actress, who has played Debbie since 1984, said the wedding is a key moment for Debbie, who is determined to see it go ahead despite her recent diagnosis of young onset vascular dementia.
Devaney explained that Debbie has never found true love before, but Ronnie's promise to stay by her side despite her illness has won her heart. The wedding will feature a performance from a dementia choir, which Devaney described as 'beautiful' and 'fabulous'. She also had input into Debbie's wedding dress, aiming for a 'Joan Collins from Rochdale' look with feathers and a 1950s silhouette.
The drama escalates as Carl, who has been plotting to steal Debbie's money, comes under scrutiny from Kevin and his ex-wife Abi. Devaney noted that Debbie is blind to Carl's faults because she loves him, but Abi is watching him closely. The wedding events will lead into a special crossover episode with Emmerdale, dubbed 'Corriedale', which will feature a dramatic car crash.
Devaney confirmed that Debbie and Carl will be in Carl's car during the crash, after fans speculated it might involve the wedding party bus. She recalled filming a stunt where Carl drives off fast, and she was allowed to speed off with the stunt driver, calling it 'like doing a little movie'. The fallout from the crash will have significant consequences heading into 2026.
