Former Coronation Street actor Sean Wilson, best known for playing Martin Platt, is set to make a return to television nearly two decades after leaving the ITV soap. The 58-year-old has built a successful career in the culinary world and is reportedly close to signing a lucrative deal with Discovery Channel to front a cookery series.
Wilson, who owns a cheese business and has authored cookery books, has been in talks with a producer about several TV proposals. Speaking to the Daily Star, he revealed: "I've got an idea for a documentary about my cheese business and I’ve got an idea for a series where I go to inner-city communities where people are struggling, and then get to know people." He added that Discovery Channel is reviewing some of his proposals.
The actor-turned-foodie described the potential series as a long-held dream he has been "constantly trying to piece together." His passion for food, particularly cheese, began at a young age and was inspired by legendary TV chef Keith Floyd. Wilson now produces Lancashire cheeses under the banner of territorial cheeses, which include varieties such as Cheshire, Wensleydale, and Stilton.
Wilson left Coronation Street in 2005 after 20 years on the show. Since then, he has focused on his culinary ventures, including his own cheese business and writing cookery books. His return to TV would mark a significant career shift, blending his acting background with his gastronomic expertise.
