Coronation Street Star Warns Grooming Plot Takes 'Dangerous' Turn as Megan's Secret Unravels

Coronation Street actor Lucas Hodgson-Wale has teased dramatic developments ahead as the soap's harrowing grooming storyline intensifies, with abuser Megan Walsh's secret at risk of exposure. In a recent interview, the 17-year-old actor, who plays 16-year-old Will Driscoll, highlighted the critical importance of raising awareness about such real-world issues through television.

Escalating Threats and New Victims

Since his debut four months ago, Lucas has been central to one of the show's most chilling plots. Will is being groomed by his older athletics coach, Megan Walsh, portrayed by Beth Nixon, who is in her 20s. Megan has gone to extreme lengths to conceal her inappropriate relationship with Will, including faking a romance with Daniel Osbourne and now being pregnant with his child.

The situation grows more perilous as a second victim, Lee, is confirmed, and Megan begins threatening teenager Sam Blakeman, played by Jude Riordan, after he uncovers the truth. Lucas emphasized that this storyline sheds light on under-discussed dynamics, such as older women grooming younger males, stressing that such behavior is never acceptable regardless of gender.

Lucas Hodgson-Wale's Journey to the Cobbles

This role marks Lucas's first major television job, following a brief appearance in the BBC series High Hoops in 2025. Interestingly, he had never watched Coronation Street before his casting but now enjoys daily viewings with his mother, finding it helpful for understanding the nonlinear filming process. He previously auditioned for the role of Miles, Theo Silverton's son, but secured the part of Will after a successful screen test while on holiday, turning his trip into a celebration.

Upcoming Drama and Character Struggles

The plot is set to take a dramatic turn when Sam collapses, leading his stepmother Leanne Battersby to suspect more than exam stress is at play. Lucas teased that Will's risky behavior, such as public displays of affection, could escalate the danger, especially as Leanne grows suspicious of Megan. With Coronation Street boss Kate Brooks hinting that the truth will soon reach Will's family, Lucas anticipates his character will face deep shame over the lies told to loved ones.

He explained that Will remains naive, not viewing himself as a victim and potentially defending Megan initially. Lucas revealed that portraying the merging of Will's dual personas—his natural self with Megan and the front he maintains for his family—will be a challenging aspect of future filming, highlighting the character's underlying youth and vulnerability.

Coronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITV X.
