Coronation Street Star Teases Jodie's Downfall as Villain Exposed

Coronation Street star Julia Goulding, who portrays Shona Platt, has openly discussed the villainous antics of her on-screen sister Jodie Ramsey, strongly hinting that a dramatic downfall could be imminent for the manipulative newcomer. The actress teased that while Shona remains blissfully unaware of Jodie's true nature for now, she hopes her character will soon be the one to expose and dismantle Jodie's web of deceit.

Jodie Ramsey's Sinister Schemes Unravel

Since her debut on the cobbles last month, Jodie Ramsey has been embroiled in a series of malicious plots, primarily targeting her estranged sister Shona Platt. The character has been actively manipulating Shona's family, attempting to drive a wedge between Shona and her husband David Platt, and even pretending to be the mother of Shona's baby, Harper. Recent episodes have revealed Jodie's secret connection to Emmerdale's Graham Foster and hinted at her involvement in her father's hospitalisation, adding layers to her villainous persona.

Julia Goulding's Hopes for Shona's Return to Form

In a revealing interview, Julia Goulding expressed her desire to see Shona reclaim her formidable 'Bad Shona' energy to confront Jodie. "I’d love to see Shona kick off and bring back that 'Bad Shona' energy!" Goulding shared enthusiastically. "She’s been made a lot softer on the street lately. I want to see the hard Shona return - the one people should actually fear!"

The actress detailed a recent scene where Jodie pretended to be Harper's mother, only for Shona to catch her in the act. "It definitely raised a red flag, but Jodie is a very skilled manipulator and a quick liar," Goulding explained. "Shona is so emotionally on her knees that she simply doesn't have the capacity to take on any more drama. She just brushes it off because she’s too exhausted to fight it."

Shona's Emotional Turmoil and Blind Trust

Goulding elaborated on Shona's current psychological state, describing her as "highly strung, emotionally exhausted, and physically drained" due to Harper's illness and ongoing family tensions. "She’s so happy to have her sister back and so determined to make amends for leaving her in the past that she’s letting Jodie get away with more than she should," the actress noted. "At this stage, she’s either genuinely unaware or just choosing not to see it."

Despite Jodie's toxic influence, Goulding acknowledged that the character has provided Shona with a sense of safety during turbulent times. "Jodie has been invaluable. She’s providing Shona with a real sense of safety and a solid grounding during what is an incredibly turbulent time. With Harper being ill, having that sisterly support is exactly what Shona needs right now."

Impact on Shona and David's Relationship

The drama surrounding Jodie is beginning to strain Shona's marriage to David Platt. Goulding described their relationship as developing "hairline fractures" due to Jodie's manipulative interference. "They are both incredibly tired and getting irritated with one another, but they are still solid," she said. "However, those cracks are starting to show specifically because of Jodie’s influence. Eventually, those hairline fractures are probably going to turn into canyons."

Goulding concluded by emphasising Shona's reliance on both David and Jodie for support, despite the latter's ulterior motives. "It’s just one thing after another. Shona has been in fight or flight mode for a long time now. Honestly, it’s only the support from David and Jodie that’s getting her through it."

Coronation Street continues to air weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX, with viewers eagerly anticipating whether Jodie's villainy will be exposed and how Shona will ultimately respond to her sister's betrayal.
