After months off air, the BBC's award-winning medical drama Casualty makes a thunderous return this weekend, launching a new series packed with emotional shocks, physical clashes, and life-changing revelations for the staff of Holby General Hospital.
Chaos and Confrontation in the ED
The Emergency Department is under immense pressure as the new 12-part series begins. A newly released trailer promises that all hell will break loose, with the team facing professional crises and personal demons. The trauma department's future is under threat, and the watchful eye of the Care Quality Commission (CQC) is closing in.
Tensions erupt into violence when clinical lead Flynn Byron (Olly Rix) and the shambolic Dylan Keogh come to blows. The clash stems from Dylan's outright refusal to mentor new resident doctor Matty (Aron Julius), leading Flynn to bellow at him to "suck it up." Meanwhile, stalwart Jacob Masters (Charles Venn) continues to grapple with family turmoil, seen tearfully hugging his wayward son Blake as police intervene.
A Stunning Pregnancy Revelation
One of the most shocking moments in the upcoming series involves a major personal revelation for a beloved character. Siobhan McKenzie (Melanie Hill) delivers staggering news to mum-of-three Faith Cadogan (Kirsty Mitchell), telling her plainly: "You're pregnant."
The colour drains from Faith's face as she processes the announcement. Her relationship with ex-army corporal Iain (Michael Stevenson) is already strained, and she is heard telling him to "find somebody else to fix." This unexpected pregnancy is set to throw her life and career into further disarray.
New Faces and Fresh Conflicts
The series introduces two new doctors who are in for a rocky ride at Holby. Charismatic new arrival Matty is quickly unimpressed with what he sees, threatening to report the department to the CQC. His fellow newcomer, the confident Kim (Jasmine Bayes), declares she was "made for the ED," but soon faces a stern reprimand to focus on the medicine.
Amid the chaos, senior staff Flynn and Siobhan must unite the fracturing team. While nurse Rida Amaan (Sarah Seggari) is reduced to tears during an emergency, there is a glimmer of happiness for couple Cam (Barney Walsh) and Indie (Naomi Wakszlak), who share a kiss in the opening episode, titled 'Learning Curve'.
Casualty returns on Saturday 10th January 2026, with episodes available first on BBC iPlayer from 6am, followed by a broadcast on BBC One at 8.45pm. This new run comes as BBC Studios has won the tender to continue producing the Bafta-winning drama, which is filmed in Cardiff, with production on the next series starting in the spring.
