Brittany Snow on Hollywood Ageism and 'Woman Gaze' in Hunting Wives
Brittany Snow: Hunting Wives Scenes Defy Ageism

Actress Brittany Snow has delivered a powerful critique of Hollywood's treatment of women over 32, stating the industry often seeks to 'disregard' them as sexual beings. The star, famous for her role in Pitch Perfect, has taken a stand through her work in the Netflix thriller, The Hunting Wives.

Defying Ageist Stereotypes On Screen

Speaking on the Las Culturistas podcast, Snow, 39, explained how she and her 47-year-old co-star Malin Akerman consciously approached their explicit sex scenes in the series. She articulated a common industry prejudice, noting that Hollywood frequently sidelines women after the age of 32 when it comes to nudity and scenes exploring female sexuality.

"We made a conscious decision to still have this be very prevalent in a woman's life, even after she's of a Hollywood age," Snow stated. The John Tucker Must Die actress emphasised that from the outset, there was a clear understanding that the show would feature women in their late 30s and 40s having these scenes, portraying them as powerful and in control.

A Series Made for the 'Woman Gaze'

The eight-episode series, which debuted on Netflix in July, stars Snow as Sophie, a woman who moves from the city to East Texas. There, she becomes entangled with a clique of wealthy socialite housewives led by the enigmatic Margo, played by Akerman.

The show features several intimate scenes between Sophie and Margo, which Snow described as being crafted specifically for the 'woman gaze'. "We're in our late 30s, 40s, and we're going to be powerful, and this is for the woman gaze, and we're going to go for it," she told the podcast.

In a separate revelation, Malin Akerman disclosed that her character, Margo, was inspired by former First Lady Melania Trump. Akerman explained to Vulture that the creative team saw parallels with Trump as someone who "came into a marriage to this rich man as one woman," with expectations shifting as her husband pursued a political career.

Renewal and Future of The Hunting Wives

The racy mystery thriller has proven successful enough to warrant a second season. Production on season two has already begun, with an expected release window in late 2026 or early 2027. The first season remains available for streaming on Netflix, allowing audiences to experience the provocative drama that is challenging industry norms.
