Bridgerton Fans Express Fury Over Kate and Anthony's Limited Screen Time in Season 4
Bridgerton Fans Angry Over Kate and Anthony's Screen Time

Bridgerton enthusiasts have erupted in widespread frustration, issuing strikingly similar grievances after Netflix unveiled the concluding four episodes of Season 4, Part 2. The highly anticipated release, which dropped on February 26, 2026, has left a significant portion of the fanbase feeling shortchanged, claiming they did not receive the content they were explicitly "promised" by the show's creators.

The Central Plot Development

The narrative arc in this season hinges on the evolving relationship between Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Thompson, and Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha. The first half of Season 4 concluded with a dramatic cliff-hanger, as Benedict, aware of their insurmountable social divide, controversially asked Sophie to become his mistress rather than propose marriage.

Unbeknownst to Benedict, Sophie is actually the rightful heir to a substantial inheritance as the daughter of the late Lord Penwood, a role embodied by Arthur Lee. Following her father's untimely death, Sophie was placed under the guardianship of her cold and calculating stepmother, Lady Araminta, compellingly acted by Katie Leung. In a classic 'evil stepmother' trope, Araminta forced Sophie into servitude as a maid within her own familial home.

Fan Disappointment Erupts

While the new episodes finally resolve whether Sophie accepts Benedict's unconventional proposal, viewer attention has sharply pivoted to the conspicuous "absence" of two fan-favourite characters: Kate Bridgerton, played by Simone Ashley, and Anthony Bridgerton, portrayed by Jonathan Bailey. After missing the entirety of the first half of Season 4, the couple makes a long-awaited return in Part 2, accompanied by their first son, Edmund. However, their screen presence is notably sparse, and they are conspicuously absent from major family gatherings, despite holding the prestigious titles of viscount and viscountess.

Social media platforms, particularly X, formerly known as Twitter, have become hotbeds of discontent. One incensed viewer exclaimed, "Kate and Anthony being there for so little time was stupid. We deserved to see more of them." Another fan concurred, stating, "I absolutely adored Season 4—Benedict and Sophie forever!—but I found it quite odd that Anthony and Kate were there for maybe two minutes and then just... disappeared."

The frustration has spilled over onto TikTok as well, where a fourth viewer vented, "I'm so angry—they promised us more screen time than they showed." A third commenter directly petitioned for future seasons, demanding, "I demand more Kate scenes in Season 5."

Showrunner's Tease Falls Short

Prior to the release of Season 4 Part 2, showrunner Jess Brownwell had actively teased the couple's return, heightening fan expectations. However, she deliberately avoided specifying the extent of their involvement. When pressed by Variety about how much screen time viewers could anticipate for Kate and Anthony, Brownwell cryptically responded, "You’ll have to wait and see. They do have an integral role to play in terms of being the viscount and viscountess and the elder siblings. And I think it’s lovely to have them back to advise and guide."

Unfortunately, for a substantial segment of the audience, this advisory role translated into disappointingly limited visibility. Despite the backlash, not all reactions have been negative. Some fans expressed sheer delight at seeing the duo back on screen, regardless of the duration. One X user emotionally shared, "Kate and Anthony I nearly teared up I miss them so much wow." A second added, "And omg what a nice surprise to see Anthony and Kate, I thought we wouldn't see them this year at all. It's so nice to see them again, and as happy as ever."

Bridgerton Season 4, in its entirety, is currently available for streaming on Netflix, continuing to captivate audiences with its blend of Regency-era drama and modern storytelling, even as debates over character screen time rage on.
